Water Quality Update

LMOA has lifted the water quality alert that was posted on July 16. According to Aqua VA, the latest tests show that lake water in the vicinity of Tanglewood and Bolling Circle is within normal quality levels and safe for water activities.

LAKE SWIMMING RESTRICTIONS

To keep our lake safe for all, please comply with these rules:

 1. Lakefront owners may swim within 50 feet of their own shoreline.

2.   Swimming across coves or the lake is not permitted.

3.   Swimming and use of a raft, inner tube or other floatation device is not permitted in the normal traffic pattern in coves or main body of the lake.

4.   Swimming is not permitted:

•  from boats or other watercraft in the lake
•  within the Marina dock, launch area or area marked with buoys
•  from the dam
•  in the vicinity of the spillway
•  in the Tufton/Fishing Lake or any pond on the Golf Course

VA Tax Refund AVAILABLE ON BOAT FUEL

The State of Virginia is offering a refund on the Virginia motor fuel tax of 17.5 cents that was paid on gasoline and diesel fuel purchased and used in recreational or pleasure boats. The fuel must be purchased in VA in the last 12 months. Original receipts must be provided and must show date, sellers name and address, number of gallons (minimum of 5) and type of fuel. For details on filing for refunds, see the Virginia government website at http://www.dmv.virginia.gov/webdoc/citizen/fuel_tax.asp. Thanks to D’Arcy and Mary Roper for sharing this money-saving reminder.

REMINDER ABOUT POTENTIAL FOR LAKE CONTAMINATION

The Lake Preservation Committee reminds residents that contamination of the lake can occur at any time after heavy rains. Please be vigilant to protect your health -- avoid lake water contact activities for 24 to 48 hours after heavy rainfalls or until any posted restrictions have been lifted. Check for alerts at the beaches and the LMOA information resources on cable TV channels 10 and 14 and the LMOA website "Hot News."
