Happy Autumn, Everyone!

Fluvanna County was full of pumpkin-kissed coziness this weekend! Fruit Hill and the fall fest at Pleasant Grove were packed on Saturday with neighbors meeting neighbors while enjoying good food and stocking up on holiday gifts. The fun continued on Sunday at the Fluvanna Farmer’s Market at Ace Hardware, and a live condor with a 10-ft wingspan was the star of the “Birds of Prey” show at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. How fortunate we are to have been spared the devastating floods that have affected neighboring counties and states. If you want more opportunities to enjoy the Lake Life in October, this announcement is for you. Happy planning!

OCTOBER 2 SILVER & GOLD: This Group is open to all Fluvanna County residents 55 and up and meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse (41 Ashlawn Blvd.) from 10 – 11:30 AM. Contact Peggy Shanklin for more info at [email protected].

OCTOBER 4 YOGA WITH RENATA MILLER: Lake resident Renata Miller is offering two yoga classes at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. Starting this week, she will give a flow yoga class on Thursdays from 7 – 8 PM and chair yoga from 9 – 10 AM on Fridays. All you need is a yoga mat!

OCTOBER 9 WATER WORKGROUP: A designated group of LMOA Members meet monthly with Aqua Virginia Staff. These meetings are open to all LMOA Residents on the second Wednesday of each month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 10– 11:00 AM.

OCTOBER 9 FIRST OPEN MIC NIGHT AT BUNKER BISTRO: From 6 PM - 8:30 PM and going every 2nd and last Wednesday of each month. Entertainers of all ages and levels are welcome! OCTOBER 17 FINANCE COMMITTEE MEETING 2025 BUDGET DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION: LMOA Staff & Board Members will join the Finance & Audit Committee during their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, October 17 at 3 PM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse (41 Ashlawn Blvd.) to continue discussions for the 2025 Budget. OCTOBER 18 HELP FOR HELENE BENEFIT CONCERT AT CUNNINGHAM CREEK WINERY: Enjoy local music and support a great cause. The Help for Helene concert to benefit the victims of last month’s hurricane will feature five Fluvanna musical acts, beginning at 5:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 18, at Cunningham Creek Winery. All donations plus a percentage of Cunningham Creek sales will go to support the United Way of Asheville and Buncombe County. For more details and to RSVP, see the event on Facebook HERE.

OCTOBER 19 FREE WELLNESS CLINIC: You can get ahead of your rising blood sugar and reverse prediabetes. One in three American adults have pre-diabetes, often without knowing it. Presenter Cynthia Moore, Registered Dietitian, Diabetes Care & Education Specialist, will teach you to interpret your numbers, understand risk factors, and make small changes so you can delay or prevent diabetes. The free session is from 3 - 4:15 PM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse, Terrace Room A. You may wish to bring a copy of your most recent blood work to have as a personal (confidential) reference during the workshop. Email [email protected] with questions or to reserve your spot. OCTOBER 19 & 20 STUDIO ART TOUR: This fun tour is becoming a favorite in the county and showcases almost thirty skilled local artists. Guests explore the creative spaces on a self-guided tour throughout Fluvanna County from 10 AM to 5 PM. Several locations are right here at the Lake. OCTOBER 19 WITCHES & WIZARDS PADDLE: The Five-Oh Club will again spook us with a spirited Witch & Wizard Paddle, starting at 1 PM. Children should be at the Main Beach by 12:45 PM, and paddlers should meet at Beach 3 at 12:30 PM. A prize is awarded for the best Witch & Wizard costume! OCTOBER 21 WEST COAST SWING: Kyla Miller is hosting another free West Coast Swing practice session from 7- 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The first 30 minutes will be a lesson on variations of the push, pass, or whip followed by an hour of beginner-friendly music for open dancing.  Dancers are expected to already know their basics (push, pass, and whip). For more information, please contact Kyla at [email protected].

OCTOBER 29 YRF PUMPKIN CARVING: Please bring a hollowed-out pumpkin to the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 6 PM and carve your creation with some neighbors! All other supplies are provided - you just have to bring a hollow pumpkin! Please email [email protected] with any questions.

OCTOBER 31 TRICK OR TREATING AT LMOA: Children will go door to door from 6 – 8 PM. Please turn your porch lights off if you do not wish to participate.

NOVEMBER 1 BUNKER PUMPKIN PATH: Bring your carved pumpkins to Bunker Park at 6 PM and place them around the Bunker Park track. The Young Residents and Families Committee will provide lights for your pumpkins. Everyone is welcome to come and admire jack-o-lanterns from 6 – 8 PM. There will be music and candy, and we encourage everyone to wear costumes! You are not required to bring a pumpkin, but it is fun if you do. November 1st is the Day of the Dead. OCTOBER 5 – 6 VA State XCM CHAMPIONSHIP RACE: VA Racing Events is hosting the 2024 Virginia State XCM Championship Race, and it’s coming to Pleasant Grove Park! Its 22 miles of trails have been chosen for this grueling, two-day event. Participants from all over the state will camp and race at the park. There is a beer garden and vendor expo, too! OCTOBER 12 FLUVANNA WOMEN IN BUSINESS EXPO: From 10 AM – 4 PM, support WIB's major fundraising event. Funds go towards business grants and local scholarships to Fluvanna High School students. Learn more here.

Coffee & Donuts: Unless heavy rain occurs, Freedom Drip is parked in the upper parking lot of the Fairway Clubhouse Monday through Friday. Local business owner Lauren Davis offers fresh Greenberry’s Coffee and freshly baked donuts.

NOVEMBER 9 LMOA’s BEACH BONFIRE BASH: Welcome the cold season with your neighbors on a fun-filled day starting at 1 PM. Gather on the Ashlawn Clubhouse lawn for emergency and LMOA vehicle displays, kids’ games, and hayrides. Inside, Lakeside Restaurant will be open for lunch with live jazz music; a build-your-own burger bar and full drinks menu are available until 4 PM, while the Shark Tank will offer hot dogs, chili, mac & cheese, fries, nuggets, mulled wine, beer, and hot chocolate (both kid-friendly and adult versions) from 4 – 7 PM. The Department of Public Safety will host a fraud awareness workshop in the Terrace Rooms at 1 PM. Down at the Main Beach, hop on a neighbor’s boat for a free boat ride on our scenic Lake! Everything at the clubhouse closes down around 4 PM, and the party shifts to the Main Beach. Enjoy complimentary s'mores from 4 – 6 PM from the Young Residents & Families Committee while more live music kicks off the perfect evening mood for a bonfire on the beach! Mark your calendars! This is a private, free event for Lake Monticello residents. That same day, Lakers Fritz and Linda Dietz plan on hosting a yard sale that benefits the Lion’s Club. The yard sale is at 54 Wildwood Dr from 8 AM to PM.
