Lake Monticello's shoreline has five beaches for swimming, picnicking, and launching kayaks and canoes. Each location includes picnic tables and grills, docks for temporary boat docking, and public restrooms. Annual rental of canoe and kayak racks is available through the Marina Office.

For those who like to fish, VA license is required, but don't have a boat, Tufton Pond is an excellent option for you. While swimming is prohibited, the pond is open to kayakers and those using other non-motorized watercraft. For those who prefer to relax, enjoy nature, and read a book, the handicap accessible pier is a fantastic destination.

CREEL LIMITS:

• Largemouth Bass: Keep all bass less than 15 inches and release all bass 15 inches or more
• Sunfish: Release all sunfish
• Black Crappie, White Perch, Catfish and Bullhead, Chain Pickerel, Gizzard Shad, Grass Carp: Keep all

RULES
 

Tufton Pond is a small 40 acre pond which is primarily used for fishing, Kayaks, Canoes, and small non-motorized boats. There is a fishing pier and small boat ramp. Swimming is not allowed and posted accordingly due to inaccessible swimmer access areas around the pond, in addition to some algal bloom occurrences that are the result of an excess of nutrients (particularly phosphorus and nitrogen). LMOA prohibits swimming in Tufton pond for overall safety reasons and due to concerns regarding potential species of blue-green algae (cyanobacteria) which can become toxic and bloom rapidly during warm weather when ideal conditions occur.

LMOA has courts at two separate locations. Lafayette Courts are open for play, without a charge, to members, social associate members, and their guests. There is an annual membership fee to use the Ashlawn Courts along with a registration form. 

Pickleball lines are in place at both Ashlawn and Lafayette Courts. Lake residents gather nearly daily for group play at either of these courts. New players are welcome to join. Tennis activities are:

Junior Tennis: Boys and girls ages 8-13 can join the Lake Monticello Junior Tennis League. No experience is necessary – adult tennis volunteers teach basic skills such as strokes, types of shots, serving, and scoring the game. The League plans to start meeting every Monday staring September 12, 2022, at the Ashlawn Courts from 5-6 PM. Contact Betsy Gunnels at [email protected] for more information!

Bunker Ball Field is designed for use as a softball or soccer field. Picnic and public restroom facilities are also available at this location. The ball field is surrounded by a 1/4 mile paved walking path.
