Hello, Team LMOA, We wish all of our residents a happy Easter and spring celebration with family and friends this weekend. Please continue reading for more news and information in this week's official LMOA update! LMOA Employee Recognized: Russell Wilkins, a dedicated LMOA employee and firefighter, has been honored with two Medals of Valor from the Lake Monticello Fire Department! This recognition comes from his heroic efforts in rescuing a child from a tall tree twice this year. Each of these incredible rescues required building the child's trust, securing them safely, and rappelling down to safety together. Chief Richie Constantino expressed his gratitude by saying, “The actions of Firefighter Wilkins were quick, selfless, and truly heroic. His successful efforts saved a human life. His feats involved exceptional courage in the face of great danger. His actions were in the best tradition of the Lake Monticello Fire Department and as Chief of the Department, I am proud and honored to recognize and request an award to Firefighter Wilkins for a medal of valor for his actions, dedication, devotion and truly saving a life and protecting those members of the service operating on the ground.” Great job, Russell! We really appreciate everything you do! LMOA Board Meeting and PPP Loan: The upcoming Regular Board Meeting is scheduled for April 24 at 7 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse. The Board Packet was posted today and can be accessed at lmoa.org by logging in, navigating to the GOVERNANCE tab, and selecting BOARD MEETING DETAILS. You will see a placeholder for Agenda Item 11.4. Supporting documents will be shared with the community as soon as possible, as they are currently under review by legal counsel and the Association’s insurance provider. As you know, ongoing negotiations with the Department of Justice regarding the PPP Loan Forgiveness are in progress. Because LMOA anticipates it may need to repay the loan or take other action, it is also having its insurance coverage for potential reimbursement evaluated. Furthermore, LMOA is assessing the use of existing funds, like the Emergency Reserve Account (which requires a member vote for access). It is too early to tell, but this situation may necessitate the Board adding a Board Proposal to the Annual Meeting Agenda, which will be addressed in Thursday's regular Board meeting. The Board is committed to transparency on the matter and will provide more information when it is available. You can attend the meeting in person or watch it live on YouTube or Comcast channel 977. Sign up to speak in person here. Committee Members Needed: The Environmental Control Committee is excited to invite alternate members to join their team! As an alternate member, you step in when a permanent member cannot attend the scheduled meetings, which take place every Tuesday morning, except on holidays. This committee collaborates with the Residential Standards Office to review property enhancement applications from lake homeowners and visit the sites to ensure everything meets LMOA standards. If you're interested in becoming an alternate member, we would love to hear from you! Please reach out to the Residential Standards Office for more information at [email protected]. The Wildlife Committee also has room for more members. Email [email protected] for more information. Job Opportunities: LMOA's Facilities & Operations Team is hiring! There are several fantastic positions available, including an Ops Tech, seasonal roles, and a custodian. We'd love to have you join the team that keeps our community going strong! Please check the CAREERS page at lmoa.org for more information. Bulk Trash Pickup: Our trash and recycling partners at Green For Life (GFL) will conduct our annual curbside Bulk Trash Pickup from Monday, April 21, through Thursday, April 24. Follow these guidelines to ensure you get the most out of the event:
Find your assigned service day on THIS MAP.
Feel free to put your items out one day early. People love to pick up scrap metal and reusable items before GFL arrives.
GFL crews will start at 7 AM on Monday in the designated service area. If an area is not finished on its day, don’t worry - the crew will start the next day to finish before moving on to the next area. Friday will be an overflow day if needed. Due to the high demand for this service each year, crews will not come back for items if the whole street has already been done.
You can set out standard household items like small furniture, trash bags, leaf bags, and small metal items like toasters, small TVs, etc.
All items will be taken by hand, not by machine. Keep this in mind when putting items at curbside. Limit them to a maximum weight of 50 lbs each and a length of 5 feet.
Excluded materials are computers, printers, monitors, and similar equipment, mattresses, box springs, large appliances (like washers, dryers, water heaters, dishwashers, stoves, refrigerators, freezers, A/C units), and any motorized equipment containing freon, rocks, concrete, dirt, tires, soil, sod, tree stumps, and any type of construction or renovation debris, including insulation, lumber, drywall, landscaping timbers, and friable asbestos, free liquids, paint or paint cans with paint in them, spray paint cans, motor oil, lead-acid/wet cell batteries, biohazardous materials, needles, and any other medical waste, combustibles, toxic and/or hazardous wastes, any material excluded from the disposal site, and all flammable products (e.g., petrol, chemicals, propane tanks) dead animals, fecal matter, or manure.
HINT: Some of these excluded items can be dropped off at Pleasant Grove Park, 1730 Thomas Jefferson Pkwy, on April 26. Car tires can be dropped off 9 - 11 AM or until the truck is full. All car tires must be off their rims, with a limit of 12 per resident. Hazardous waste collection is from 10 AM - 2 PM. Your Proof of Fluvanna County Residency is required and does not include businesses.
Get Ready for Pool Season: The 2025 LMOA Pool Season opens on May 24, and this year we are implementing a new procedure for entry due to the 25 free pool credits for primary property members in good standing. It may take some getting used to - for you and for staff - but we’re here to support you every step of the way! If you have about 5 minutes, please click on THIS LINK and select your member type to receive great information that is relevant to your situation. Please note, you do not have to apply for free pool visit credits. If you are a primary property owner in good standing (the owner listed first on the deed), you will automatically receive these on your account by opening day. As always, feel free to contact Member Services if you have any questions.
UPCOMING EVENTS!
Meet the Easter Bunny: The Young Residents & Families Committee is hosting its annual Easter Bunny Meet & Greet on April 20! Join your neighbors from 2 PM – 4 PM at the Shark Tank cul-de-sac for the perfect (free) Easter photo “h-op” and lots of goodies and treats. A Big Thank You from Lucas Dunaway! 9-year-old Lucas Dunaway won first place in the chipping skill and second place overall at the National Drive, Chip and Putt Championship! He feels so grateful for all the support from our community and wants to invite everyone to celebrate with him at the driving range on Saturday, April 19th, from 9–11 AM. Join him for some coffee and sweet treats at 51 Bunker Blvd. 2025 Member-Guest Tournament: If you love golf, you do not want to miss the Member-Guest Tournament on our golf course. A weekend of fun, fellowship and food starts Friday, June 6, through Sunday, June 8. For this and all events on the golf course, visit https://www.lakemonticellogolf.org/events! Fishing Contest: On May 3, join the Lake Monticello Catch and Keep Small Bass Roundup to help improve our lake. On the morning of the "Roundup", catch and keep as many bass measuring 15 inches or less as you can. Bring the bass to the marina between 9 AM and 12:30 PM to register your catch. The three entrants with the most bass will win prizes: first prize is $50, second prize is $30, and third prize is $20. Too many small bass can create a stunted and unhealthy fish population, so have fun while making Lake Monticello a healthier fishery. For questions, email [email protected]. This event is collaboration between LMOA Facilities & Operations and the Lake Monticello Fishing Club! West Coast Swing: The West Coast Swing practice with Kyla Miller on April 21 is canceled. She will let us know when she will resume. Newcomers and Old Friends Party: Save the date! June 6 promised to be a fun night with neighbors! See their FLYER and NEWSLETTER for more information about this community-wide club and their end-of-year activities.
WATER SAFETY TIP OF THE WEEK
Did you know... As the owner of a boat and LMOA member, you are responsible for all operations and actions of your boat, regardless of who is operating it. Please make sure that you and anyone borrowing your boat understand VA Safe Boating Laws and the specific rules of Lake Monticello. Please see LMOA Policy 6.04 for more information and the Safe Boating section of the Virginia Department of Wildlife Resources website at https://dwr.virginia.gov/. The Volunteer Water Safety Team will happily answer any questions you may have about safe boating on our lake. Contact them at [email protected] You can join the Volunteer Water Safety Team! They are looking for anyone who loves being out on the water and is interested in helping their neighbors stay safe on the water. Is that YOU? If so, come to their volunteer training event on April 26, starting at 9 AM at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. This training will familiarize you with their education and outreach approach, and you will learn how to become a crew member for their on-the-water safety checks that begin on Memorial Day weekend. Following this classroom training, you will have the opportunity to join their on-the-water training that afternoon or the weekend of May 3. If interested, come to the training OR contact them at [email protected]. Have a good weekend, Tom Schauder LMOA General Manager
