Water Safety Tip of the Week
Brought to you by the Volunteer Water Safety Team
Did you know... There are three speeds for motorboats to use while boating on Lake Monticello. Safe Speed is the speed less than the maximum to enable a boat operator to take proper, effective action to avoid collision and stop within a distance appropriate to the current circumstances or conditions. Slow Speed is a precautionary speed of five miles per hour and is the required maximum speed at night. No Wake (Idle) Speed is the slowest possible speed required to maintain steerage and headway. This is required in marked coves and when within 50 feet of shore, docks, and people in the water. Have a wonderful weekend! Kind Regards, Tom Schauder LMOA General Manager
