Hello, Team LMOA! We hope all of our educators and students have had a good first week! We also congratulate the Lake Monticello Ladies Golf Association on its 50th Anniversary and wish the ladies a fun celebration next week on the 21st. Please continue reading for LMOA's latest official news update: Bus Stop Safety: If you have a child who rides the school bus, please talk to them about bus stop safety and encourage them to be mindful of traffic. For example, you could:
Ask them to stand at the bus stop. A driver can easily oversee children who sit on the road.
Remind them that the bus stop is not a play area. Especially children who run or play between parked vehicles can go unnoticed by oncoming traffic, potentially resulting in an accident.
Ask them to look both ways before crossing the road and not run out or push other children into the road.
Motorists should also be mindful of traffic rules regarding school buses. Stop for school buses with flashing red lights and an extended stop sign when approaching from any direction. Remain stopped until everyone is clear, and the bus moves again. Also stop whenever the bus is loading or unloading passengers, even if the lights and stop sign are not activated. Please help keep each other safe, thank you! Volunteers Needed: Are you passionate about the upkeep of our community? The Environmental Control Committee (ECC) is looking for regular and alternate members. The core function of the ECC is to review residents’ project applications for construction or property modification which the committee does every Tuesday (except on holidays). Meetings take 2-3 hours, and ideal candidates can interpret and apply LMOA Policy, Covenants, Restrictions and Reservations, and Statements of Subdivision to ensure applications meet all requirements. If you are interested in becoming a member, please contact the committee at [email protected]. If you cannot commit to meeting every Tuesday, please consider becoming an alternate member. They fill open spots to meet quorum if a regular member cannot be present. Please join the team and help keep LMOA beautiful! Budget Season Kickoff: Planning for the 2025 Budget and Fee Schedule will occur next week through November, and the work sessions are open to all LMOA Members. The first meeting is scheduled to take place in the Ashlawn Clubhouse on August 21 from 1-3 PM. We encourage Members to attend and provide feedback throughout the budget planning process. The initial proposal for the 2025 fee schedule and minutes of the meeting will be posted on lmoa.org under the Finance tab soon after the meeting. Please keep in mind that there will be a series of meetings and work sessions, and the fee schedule proposal may change many times before the final Board approval. The full 2025 Budget Development Calendar can be found by logging into lmoa.org, opening the Finance page, and selecting 2025 Budget. We will also announce upcoming meetings in the GM Corner and Plan Your Month emails. Please Do Not Flush Wipes: The Water Workgroup and Aqua Virginia urge Lake Monticello residents not to flush any kind of wipes, not even ones marked “flushable". Paper towels, feminine products, and diapers should also not be flushed. These items do not break down and can cause backups which lead to costly clogs that can prevent the wastewater systems from working effectively. Regular Board Meeting: The LMOA Board of Directors will meet for its regular meeting on August 22 in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) at 7 PM. Email Karis Rivera at [email protected] to sign up to speak. West Coast Swing: A free west coast swing practice session will take place on August 26. The session will be held from 7- 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The first 30 minutes will be a lesson on variations of the push, pass, or whip followed by an hour of beginner-friendly music for open dancing. Dancers are expected to already know their basics (push, pass, and whip). For more information, please contact Kyla at [email protected]. Hygeia Wellness Program: Join Susanne Murtha for the program "Learn How to Live Well and Suffer Less from Chronic Pain". She is a certified pain management coach who will share practical evidence-informed strategies to address pain on August 29 from 7PM - 8:15 PM. Register at [email protected]. Have a great weekend!
