August 26 West Coast Swing: The August 26 session has been canceled. The next chance will be on September 16 when Kyla Miller will host a free West Coast Swing practice session from 7 PM - 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The first 30 minutes will be a lesson on variations of the push, pass, or whip followed by an hour of beginner-friendly music for open dancing. September 2 Labor Day: LMOA wishes you a well-deserved break this Labor Day! Our Administrative Offices will be CLOSED on Monday. This will also be the last day the pool is open. We thank the Pool Staff for a job well done keeping our pool visitors safe this summer. We also thank all of the Safety & Security, Marina, Golf, Pool, and Food & Beverage Staff for continuing to work throughout the holiday so that we may enjoy our community to the fullest! We appreciate you! September 4 ‘Sassy Seniors’ Safety Seminar’: The Silver & Gold Group is holding this gathering from 10 AM – 11:30 AM at the Ashlawn Clubhouse (41 Ashlawn Blvd.) where an LMOA Law Enforcement Officer is scheduled to speak about avoiding fraud and promoting general personal safety. Self-defense expert, Cindy Kyle, will also do a hands-on demonstration of seniors-friendly defense moves. Attendees should dress comfortably, wear reasonable shoes, and be ready to practice their new skills. Personal mobility equipment can be used in the class too. September 7 Free Boat Rides: Wow! We posted this event on August 23, and it filled up in just two days. Thank you, Lake Monticello Community for supporting another great Young Residents and Families Committee collaboration. The YRF Committee appreciates your support! September 11 Remembrance Ceremony: This year marks the 23rd anniversary of the terror attacks on our Nation on September 11, 2001. Please join the members of the Lake Monticello Fire Department, Rescue Squad, and Water Rescue to honor and commemorate all the civilians, firefighters, police officers, and EMTs who perished on that fateful day. They will gather at the 9/11 Memorial Garden, located at 10 Slice Road, Palmyra on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at 6:00 PM. Refreshments will be served following the ceremony. September 15 Newcomers & Old Friends Kick-Off Meeting: Read all about Newcomers & Old Friends in the newsletter HERE. They have an extensive program with over 30 activities ranging from All Things British to the Genealogy Club. Membership costs just $10 a year. The club meets once a month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse on a Sunday from 3:30 – 5:30 PM. The first meeting of the season is on September 15. September 17 DMV Connect at Ashlawn: Can’t get to the DMV? Not to worry, the DMV will come to you! From 9 AM – 4 PM, DMV staff will be at the Ashlawn Clubhouse by appointment only. Please note, they will be closed for lunch from 12 PM to 1 PM. Be sure to schedule your appointment and view their list of services HERE. DMV Connect Canceled: DMV Connect has canceled the September 17 session at Lake Monticello. It will work with LMOA to reschedule for late October, and its IT Department is looking into why the DMV website was not working properly last week. September 20 In the Pink Tennis & Pickleball Charity Event: ‘In The Pink, Tennis for a Cause’ takes place in the region on September 20 - 21 at Boar's Head, Farmington, ACAC, Greencroft, Keswick, Forest Lakes, Glenmore, and Lake Monticello. On September 20, the ladies will play at Lake Monticello. All proceeds benefit Marianne's Room, a cancer resource center. September 14 Hygeia Wellness: Please join Kris Bonham RDN and Cynthia Moore MS, RDN for a Nourishing Resilience (NR) workshop in the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 3 PM - 4 :15 PM. NR is a set of skills that improve our ability to recover faster toward high-level well-being after stressors and allow us to make healthier food, movement, and relationship choices. NR skills are based on EBT-Emotional Brain Training, developed at the University of California, San Francisco by Laurel Mellin PhD, RDN and colleagues. The instructors have offered this training locally, including at the University of Virginia, since 2006. During this introduction, they will share the scientific basis and some of the key skills of the method. You’ll learn at least two resilience skills! September 25 Free Financial Seminar: Nicholas DiGiorgio of United Brokerage Services is offering a free 4-part Financial Seminar Series at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. September 26 LMOA Regular Board Meeting: LMOA Members are welcome to speak at board meetings which take place in the Fairway Clubhouse at 7 PM. Sign up to speak by emailing Executive Assistant Karis Rivera at [email protected]. September 29 Birds of Prey: On Sunday, September 29, the Birds of Prey program will come back to the Lake! Get up close and personal with hawks, falcons, vultures, and owls while learning about these fascinating and beautiful birds! The event is sponsored by the Wildlife Committee and starts at 2 PM on the Ashlawn Clubhouse lawn (41 Ashlawn Blvd.) Bring your own chair. If it rains, the event will move indoors with a session at 2 PM and a session at 3 PM. Due to the capacity of the Terrace Rooms, each session can fit 90 people. Please remember that both the Tuesday Basketry Group (every Tuesday at 9:30 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse) & Tuesday Yoga (every Tuesday at 8:45 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse) are back to their regular schedule. FLUVANNA COUNTY HIGHLIGHTS September 14 Groovin’ at the Grove: The last Groovin’ at the Grove of the 2024 season will be at Pleasant Grove Park from 5 PM – 7 PM. This community event is presented by Fluvanna Parks and Recreation! Music kicks off at 5 PM at Pleasant Grove Park, and entry is free. Farmer's Market: Want more music? Come to the Farmer’s Market by Ace Hardware every Sunday from 11 AM – 2 PM for local produce, meats, and crafts as well as live, local music and food trucks.
