Hello, Team LMOA! Temperatures have cooled down, but an active fall is in store for you. From 2025 Budget Planning to fundraisers, we will keep you updated in the GM Corner and here at lmoa.org. Please continue reading for LMOA’s latest official news update: Fireworks: The LMOA Board of Directors appreciates the emails expressing gratitude or disappointment regarding the fireworks decision. Some residents have suggested holding a fundraiser to collect money for a fireworks show; however, BOD voted not to enter into a fireworks contract due to safety concerns, not a lack of funds. The decision was made in September because the LMOA Staff brought up major safety concerns at the August Board meeting, and a 50% down payment for the 2025 fireworks show was due in October. Facilities and Operations is currently developing a plan to modify the Main Beach to increase overall safety during smaller events like the upcoming Beach Bonfire Bash. The fall bonfire attracted about 400 visitors last year, which LMOA believes is manageable if the exits to the beach are modified and better lighting is provided. Parking will still be a challenge, but not on the scale that occurs during the Independence Day Celebrations. Please read more about the fall bonfire festival below. November 9 Beach Bonfire Bash: Mark your calendars to welcome the holiday season with your neighbors on a fun-filled, fall festival day! Listen to live music, enjoy plenty of good food and family fall fun, and visit with first responders. Checkout the schedule of events below:
Free Boat Rides, Main Beach 12 - 4 PM: Volunteers have worked hard with staff to plan free boat rides at the Beach Bonfire Bash. There is limited space, so please reserve a relaxed, one-hour lake cruise soon using this LINK or call Member Services at 434-589-8263 if you need help.
Public Safety and F&O Meet-and-Greet, Ashlawn Clubhouse 1-4 PM: The Lake Monticello Department of Public Safety is hosting a Fraud Awareness workshop at 1 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. Fraud can quickly impact our residents at Lake Monticello, and prevention is the primary way to protect oneself. First responders and LMOA Facilities & Operations staff will meet the community outside on the lawn until 4 PM. This is a great chance to shake hands with our hometown heroes, ask questions, and let the kids check out their cars and trucks.

LMOA Merchandise Benefits Meals on Wheels: This holiday season, LMOA will sell T-shirts, ornaments, and Yeti tumblers to benefit Meals on Wheels. There is a limited supply, which can be ordered online HERE. LMOA will donate $5 to Fluvanna Meals on Wheels for each item purchased. This local non-profit delivers a hot, nutritious meal and wellness check to seniors and adults with disabilities who are homebound. We plan to sell the merchandise through October 27 or while supplies last. Please have a look and share the link with friends and family. The prepaid orders can be picked up at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from November 18 - December 6, on time for the holidays! Aqua Virginia: The Water Workgroup met on October 9, and some of the topics discussed include:
Ongoing infrastructure upgrades: The group felt that improvements such as remote monitors on pump stations may have contributed to the lack of significant sewage leaks this summer.
Plans to educate residents: The flushing of wipes and grease continues to cause issues with the system, and the workgroup would like to hold a few educational events in 2025. According to Aqua Virginia's staff, grease and wipes (even "flushable" ones) are the number one reason for sewage backups and pump and grinder failures at Lake Monticello.
Colonial Circle: The new development on Lake Monticello Road and Route 53 continues to concern the group. They plan to take further action; more details to come.
Customer care: Unsatisfactory customer service continues to be an issue. Aqua Virginia must report resolutions to customer service complaints as part of the rate increase stipulation agreement with the State Corporate Commission (SCC). If you feel your complaint still needs to be resolved, please report this to the State Corporate Commission. Learn how to report complaints HERE or call the SCC at 804-371-9051 for information.
If you would like to learn more about Aqua Virginia in this area, the company developed a webpage specifically for Lake Monticello: aquawater.com/lake-monticello.php. It contains information about water quality, contacting customer service, outages, and how to keep unwanted contaminants out of our Lake. Budget Planning: The 2025 BUDGET DEVELOPMENT DISCUSSION will continue at the next Finance & Audit Committee meeting on October 17 at 3 PM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse. This meeting is open to Members. For more info on the 2025 Budget Development Process, visit the Finance Tab on the member side of LMOA.org. Things To Do:
