Good evening, Lake Community! Can you believe it’s almost November? The coming month is packed with fun, and this announcement will help you plan for quality time with neighbors. Happy planning! OCTOBER 29 YRF PUMPKIN CARVING: Bring a hollowed-out pumpkin to the Ashlawn Clubhouse (41 Ashlawn Blvd.) at 6 PM and carve your creation with some neighbors! YRF provides all other supplies; you just have to bring a hollow pumpkin! Please email [email protected] with any questions. NOVEMBER 1 BUNKER PUMPKIN PATH: Drop off your carved pumpkins at Bunker Park (14 Bunker Blvd.) at 5:30 PM and place them around the Bunker Park track. The Young Residents and Families Committee will provide lights for your pumpkins. Everyone is welcome to come and admire the jack-o-lanterns from 6 – 8 PM. There will be music and candy, and we encourage everyone to wear costumes! You are not required to bring a pumpkin, but it will be fun if you do. Please be sure to come back and get your pumpkins by 10 AM the next morning, or they will be donated to a local pig sanctuary. (If you want your pumpkin donated to the animals, please make sure there are no paint or pen/marker marks on the pumpkin.) Please email [email protected] with any questions. NOVEMBER 4 THANKSGIVING TO GO LIVE: Although Bunker Bistro will be closed on Thanksgiving Day, dinner packages can be picked up on Wednesday, November 27, before 6 PM. Orders will open on November 4, 2024, at bunkerbistro.com/. Package meals can feed 2-3 people. The bistro will have a limit of 40 orders: $65 plus tax. All items are made in-house (except cranberry sauce): 8 Lb. Roasted Turkey, Stuffing, Mashed potatoes, Turkey gravy, Green bean casserole,, Rolls and butter, Cranberry sauce, and 6-inch pumpkin pie! Pickups will be at the Ashlawn Clubhouse NOT at the Bistro. NOVEMBER 5 FUNCTIONALLY FIT: Janelle Palmiotto is hosting a new fitness class every Tuesday in the Ashlawn Clubhouse. This class will meet from 11:30 - 12:30 PM. It will focus on agility, strength, balance, flexibility, and cognitive fitness. Janelle wishes to train others to be able to perform Active Daily Living in order to care for themselves and to continue enjoying activities such as gardening, playing pickleball with grandchildren, golfing, and any other daily activity. Get fit, get functionally fit, and have fun! All you need is a mat and enthusiasm! All questions and registration (not required) can be sent to [email protected]. NOVEMBER 6 LAST LINE DANCING CLASS OF 2024: The Wednesday morning line dancing class will hold its final class of the 2024 calendar year on the first Wednesday in November. Class starts at 9 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse Cove Room. NOVEMBER 6 SILVER AND GOLD: This group is open to all Fluvanna County residents 55 and up and meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 10 – 11:30 AM. Contact Peggy Shanklin for more info at [email protected]. NOVEMBER 7 YOGA WITH RENATA MILLER: Lake resident Renata Miller is offering two yoga classes at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. She offers a Tuesday yoga class from 8:45 to 10 AM, chair yoga from 2 - 3 PM on Wednesdays, and a flow yoga class on Thursdays from 8:45 - 9:45 AM and 7 - 8 PM. All you need is a yoga mat! NOVEMBER 7 & 8 ‘2025 BUDGET HEARING’: Join the LMOA Board of Directors as they hear final input and comments on the 2025 budget from Members before the finalized budget is expected to be approved at the November BOD meeting. This is a Board Work Session and LMOA Member Hearing, and Members are encouraged to attend. A second hearing is scheduled for the following day if needed. The meeting will begin at 6 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) The Board will hold a second budget hearing on the 8th (same time, same place) if additional input from the Membership is needed prior to its anticipated approval at the regular monthly meeting on November 21. NOVEMBER 9 LMOA’s BEACH BONFIRE BASH: Welcome the cold season with your neighbors on a fun-filled day starting at 1 PM. Gather on the Ashlawn Clubhouse lawn for emergency and LMOA vehicle displays, kids’ games, and hayrides. Inside, Lakeside Restaurant will be open for lunch with live jazz music; a build-your-own burger bar and full drinks menu are available until 4 PM, while the Shark Tank will offer hot dogs, chili, mac & cheese, fries, nuggets, mulled wine, beer, and hot chocolate (both kid-friendly and adult versions) from 4 – 7 PM. The Department of Public Safety will host a fraud awareness workshop in the Terrace Rooms at 1 PM. Down at the Main Beach, hop on a neighbor’s boat for a free boat ride on our scenic Lake! Everything at the clubhouse closes down around 4 PM, and the party shifts to the Main Beach. Enjoy complimentary s'mores from 4 – 6 PM from the Young Residents & Families Committee while more live music from Jefferson Speedboat kicks off the perfect evening mood for a bonfire on the beach! Mark your calendars! This is a private, free event for Lake Monticello residents. That same day, Lakers Fritz and Linda Dietz plan on hosting a yard sale that benefits the Lion’s Club. The yard sale is at 54 Wildwood Dr starting at 8 AM. November 10 BATHROOM WINTERIZATION: Our Facilities & Operations Team will be winterizing the restrooms at Beach 4 and the Shark Tank (Beach 1) this winter season. This prevents damage caused by frozen pipes and saves on costs. Ashlawn Playground, Bunker Park, Lafayette Playground, Beach 2, 3, 5, and the Marina will have facilities available throughout the winter. Please take this into account when you are using the beaches and parks. Finally, a friendly reminder that pets are not allowed in our parks, and Beaches 2 and 5 can be used for pets starting December 1. NOVEMBER 11 LMOA ADMINISTRATIVE OFFICES CLOSED: LMOA Administrative Staff will observe Veterans’ Day on Monday, November 11. The Member Services and Residential Standards desks will be closed. NOVEMBER 13 WATER WORK GROUP: Meet the Lake Residents and Aqua Virginia Staff who collaborate to improve service at Lake Monticello. Visitors are welcome, but please hold your questions till the end of the meeting. It will take place at the Ashlawn Clubhouse Terrace Room A from 10:30 – 11:30 AM. NOVEMBER 16 HYGEIA WELLNESS: Join Aqura Nicholson & Christina Courtney for an introductory preview of an upcoming 10-week course on Fiscal/Financial Wellness. During this free workshop hosted by the Hygeia Wellness Park, participants will explore building a resilient money mindset, unrestrictive budgeting techniques, debt management strategies, and accessible investing options so that you can confidently accomplish your goals, be they establishing financial security, achieving debt freedom, or creating long-term wealth. This will be held in the Ashlawn Clubhouse Terrace Room A from 3 -4:15 PM. NOVEMBER 17 NEWCOMERS & OLD FRIENDS: The monthly meeting will be in the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department from 3:30 – 5:00 PM. Please see the attached newsletter for more information. There will be no monthly meeting in December. NOVEMBER 18 WEST COAST SWING: Kyla Miller is hosting another free West Coast Swing practice session from 7 - 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The first 30 minutes will be a lesson on variations of the push, pass, or whip followed by an hour of beginner-friendly music for open dancing. NOVEMBER 18 LMOA HOLIDAY MERCH PICKUP: A hearty Team LMOA “Thank You” to those who purchased our limited-edition holiday merch to benefit Fluvanna Meals on Wheels this year. All online purchases can be picked up at the Ashlawn Clubhouse Help Desk starting November 18, 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM. Our friendly staff will confirm the details of your purchase when you pick it up. We still have some of our limited-edition Monti Ornaments to sell! They will be available for purchase at the Beach Bonfire Bash on November 9, the Marina and Golf ProShop. NOVEMBER 21 REGULAR BOARD MEETING: Fairway Clubhouse at 7 PM (51 Bunker Blvd.). Sign up to speak here. NOVEMBER 23 LEARN ABOUT LMOA’s BEAR SPONSORSHIP: The LMOA Wildlife Committee invites you to learn about their important partnership with the Wildlife Center of VA. Their sponsorship of the bear program allows injured and/or orphaned bears to be rehabilitated over the course of a year before being released back into the wild. This event will be at the Ashlawn Clubhouse and begins at 1 PM. NOVEMBER 25 FINAL DAY OF HAPPY FACE BOX: The Happy Face donation box at the Ashlawn Clubhouse is filling up, but there is plenty of space to store more items! The Fluvanna Christian Society is looking for generous toy and food donations. Every little bit counts and will help make the holidays brighter for Fluvanna families in need. No toy guns, please. All children’s sizes (infant - 18) of new coats and pjs are also welcome! NOVEMBER 28 & 29 LMOA OFFICES CLOSED: LMOA administrative offices will be closed on Thursday, November 28, and Friday, November 29, in observance of the Thanksgiving Holiday.
