Beach Bonfire Bash
Saturday, November 9, 2024
This weekend, Saturday, November 9, we warmly invite all Lake residents to join us for our coziest event of the year - the Beach Bonfire Bash! From complimentary boat rides to free live music, this unique fall festival is made possible by neighbors who care. From 1 - 4 PM, the Ashlawn Clubhouse grounds will be buzzing with activities that all ages can enjoy. Then, from 4 -8 PM, gather on the Main Beach for more fun. Volunteers and staff have worked hard so that everyone can come together to celebrate the amazing community we share.
A few important notes:
If you are coming in the evening, please bring your own chair and flashlight.
If you need to drop someone off who has a disability so they can access the Main Beach, please do so in the Ashlawn Blvd. cul-de-sac.
This event is for our residents only. It will not be advertised in the Fluvanna Review. If someone you know does not read email, please let them know the details are on lmoa.org or that they can call Member Services at 434-589-8263.
Here’s what’s in store for you (please note the exact times of activities in the descriptions):
1 PM - 4 PM
Public Safety Day: The Public Safety and Facilities & Operations Teams will showcase their services in the Edgewater parking lot. It’s a fantastic chance to connect with the dedicated staff who ensure our community’s safety and smooth operation. Children (and adults!) can explore their vehicles and equipment while discovering more about the services offered.
Fraud Awareness Workshop: Inside the Ashlawn Clubhouse in the Terrace Rooms (downstairs), the Department of Public Safety will host a workshop to help residents learn how to avoid scams of all sorts. We live in a low-crime community; however, fraud does occur regularly. Come learn how to protect yourself from being taken advantage of! This workshop will only be given once at 1 PM and will last about an hour.
Lakeside Burgers and Jazz: Lakeside Restaurant (upstairs in the Ashlawn Clubhouse) will be open for lunch with a build-your-own burger bar ($10) and a full drinks menu until 4 PM. If you want, take your lunch or drink to the Lake Room and listen to jazz talent Lisa McQueen, a Chicago pianist with musicians Michael Elswick, Bill Edmunds, and Dan Barrale. They will play from 2-4 PM.
Boat Rides: Down at the Main Beach, hop on a neighbor’s boat for a tour of our scenic Lake! This is an effort 100% coordinated by volunteers who want to share their boat and love for the water with you. To participate, you must register HERE. Most timeslots from 12 - 4 PM have been filled, but this morning there was one time slot left!
Hay Rides: Once again, our Golf Course Staff will lend their equipment and driving skills to provide free hayrides around the Ashlawn Clubhouse. Hayrides will end at 3 PM.
Kids’ Games: What would we do without the support of our Young Residents and Families Committee (YRF) volunteers, who are always keen to support LMOA’s events? Thanks to YRF, there will be yard games like Giant Connect Four and Cornhole on the Ashlawn Clubhouse lawn. They would love to hear from you if you are interested in volunteering at events or joining the committee! Please email

for more information!
Crafts and Info Tables: Volunteers of the Wildlife Committee will provide all the materials children need to make bird feeders while supplies last, and the Lake Monticello Beautification Corps (LMBC) will sell tickets for the Holiday Home Tour and raffle. The Volunteer Water Safety Team will have lots of goodies and activities to teach children about water safety.
4 PM - 8 PM
S’mores: Roast and enjoy a complementary s’more with the YRF Committee in front of the Shark Tank from 4:30 - 6 PM or while supplies last.
Shark Tank: No need to bring dinner, just your wallet! The Shark Tank will serve bonfire bites like hot dogs, chili, mac & cheese, fries, nuggets, mulled wine, beer, and hot chocolate (both kid-friendly and adult versions) from 4 – 7 PM. They can take all payment types.
Bonfire: LMOA Staff and Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue personnel will light the bonfire on the Main Beach (end of Ashlawn Blvd.) around 4:30 PM and extinguish it around 8 PM.
Live Music: The Jefferson Speedboat members are generously donating their time and talents! Bring a chair or grab a dance partner and enjoy a variety of rock-influenced songs from 4:30 to 7:30 PM. All members of this beloved local band reside at the Lake and will perform free of charge, so you can experience live music on the beach! They are not asking for tips, but it may be a nice gesture!
Broadcast Group: Did you know that LMOA’s Broadcast Committee works hard to coordinate amazing volunteers who capture nearly all of our events and board meetings? Our YouTube channel is filled with countless productions that preserve the beautiful memories of our community! If you haven't had a chance to subscribe to our channel yet, please do so today! Plus, if you're interested in learning video recording or video editing, the committee members offer free training! They are professionals in their field and fantastic instructors who love sharing their knowledge. They’re always on the lookout for volunteers eager to learn the skills needed to create quality videos. Feel free to reach out to

See you there!
