March 23 Wildlife Presentation: To celebrate the beginning of spring, the Lake Monticello Wildlife Committee is sponsoring a program on spring gardening using native landscaping to create a backyard wildlife habitat. Join speaker Ellen Stuart-Haentjens from the Virginia Wilderness Committee at 2 PM In the Ashlawn Clubhouse. Ellen has a dual PhD in biogeochemistry and ecosystems ecology with expertise in native plants. Studies have shown that when private yards are planted with native landscaping as a habitat for wildlife, these yards support a wider variety of bird species. It’s simple to turn your backyard into a home for birds, butterflies, and other wildlife just by providing certain native plants and water sources. Native plants are easier to maintain as they require lower maintenance, less water, and less fertilizer. We can all contribute to diversity and conservation right in our own backyard! March 27 Regular Board Meeting: 7 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse. Sign up to speak here.
