Hello, Team LMOA!

Tomorrow, the LMOA Board of Directors will share the results of the vote during the 53rd Annual Meeting of LMOA Members. The meeting is scheduled to take place at the Fairway Clubhouse at 10 AM, and you can also watch it live on YouTube. Voting is now closed, so there will be no in-person voting at the meeting. June Regular Board Meeting Report:

Finance Update:

• The PPP Loan negotiations are still ongoing, with a decision expected soon.
• Adams, Jenkins, and Cheatham are wrapping up the 2023 audit for LMOA, and the 2024 audit is scheduled to start the week of July 7, 2025.
• In the first quarter of 2025, LMOA transferred over $3.5 million from operating cash to investments to boost earnings.
• Overall, revenue and expenses are on track with the budget.

Facilities & Operations (F&O) Report:

• The Marina will stop selling propane due to leaks found in the tank, which was costly to replace. Additionally, propane is now available at local stores in Palmyra at comparable or lower prices, reducing sales at the Marina.
• F&O has added weekly and monthly water quality testing and lake inspections to their schedule. These are in addition to services provided by Solitude.
• The unexpectedly strong storm on June 6 resulted in more than 10 downed trees at Lake Monticello, 7 of which were major traffic hazards. Our F&O Team cleared all the hazardous trees within 4 hours, allowing for safe and (nearly) uninterrupted travel around our community.
• The new floating docks at the Main Beach offer some advantages over fixed wooden docks. If these work out well, F&O would like to gradually replace all wooden docks with the plastic EZ Docks.
• Outsourcing dredging went fairly well. Though it caused turbidity, it was gone within 36 hours. Staff recommends outsourcing again in 2026.
• F&O and the Facilities and Lake Operations Committee (FLOC) are conducting a closer examination of the watershed in the community. A way for residents to manage watersheds on their own properties is to take advantage of the Virginia Conservation Assistance Program: https://vaswcd.org/vcap/

Safety & Security:

• Chief Wells proposes closing the Ashlawn Basketball courts at dark to mitigate late-night noise and speeding complaints. The Board will decide at the next regular board meeting.

Community Development Committee Report:

• Committee Chair Tom Diggs explained that Aqua Virginia has established working relationships with Lake resident members of the Water Workgroup, and the utility company is making improvements. He also presented a video showing what happens when residents flush items like syringes, wipes, and diapers, which can damage the wastewater system and cause costly repairs that affect our rates. He urged residents to refrain from flushing any wipes, grease, or other items that could clog the system and damage pump stations. The group plans to continue educating the community on this issue.

Paperless Elections Update: We sincerely appreciate the community’s support for our efforts to transition to paperless elections over the past few years. Since we initiated online voting, we’ve seen a steady decline in the use of paper ballots, with only 17 paper ballots cast this year, while overall participation has remained consistent. ElectionBuddy has proven to be a valued partner, working closely with LMOA staff to design software that allows LMOA’s unique style of cumulative voting while facilitating a dependable platform that works for everyone. The shift to online voting has saved us nearly $10,000 annually in paper, ink, and postage costs. LMOA's Administrative Department would like to thank you all for your wonderful support!

Everbridge: Over 1500 Lake residents are staying informed by getting texts from LMOA through a platform called Everbridge. If you’re interested in getting quick and easy info from the Lake, read this article HERE.

Independence Day Celebration Schedule: Get ready to create lasting memories with your friends and neighbors as we come together to celebrate the gift of independence on July 3-5! View our fun series of events HERE and please read these reminders:

• Please note that the events are for members and their guests only.
• The sooner you call in or email your guest list, the better, but please do so by July 2nd. Please call 589-3215 or email [email protected]. You can also add guests under your member account at LMOA.org.
• We’re looking for enthusiastic volunteers to join us on Friday, July 4, 2025, especially for the 5K! If you’d like to join the neighborhood fun and volunteer for at least 2 hours at one of our events, please fill out THIS FORM. You can find the event details on the form.
• There will be very limited parking close to the Ashlawn Clubhouse on July 4th. Please walk or carpool when possible.
• Registration for the Swim Across the Lake is CLOSED. There is NO same-day registration.
• All events are free and volunteer-run (they will be wearing red EVENT STAFF t-shirts).
• LMOA administrative offices will be CLOSED on July 4th.
• We also ask residents and guests to respect their neighbors’ property. Please stay off other people’s boats that are docked at the beaches and the Marina.
• On July 4th, Bunker Bistro will not be serving lunch but will open for bar sales, hot dogs, and hamburgers from 11 AM to 4 PM.
• In case of an emergency, always call 911.

Shark Tank: Your favorite snack bar now serves beer, wine, and seltzers at the pool, Thursday through Sunday. All items are $6, including tax. You need your ID, and no more than two drinks can be purchased at a time. The Shark Tank has a variety of options, but if you want them to stock something different, let Bunker Bistro know - email them at [email protected].

Bunker Bistro: Bunker Bistro will be closed on Monday, July 7, for AC repairs, but the bistro is hosting the All-American Hangover Brunch Buffet on July 6 from 10 AM to 1 PM. The cost is $19.95 for adults and $10.95 for children under 10. Enjoy traditional brunch favorites along with Seafood Alfredo, a Huevos Rancheros station, French Toast Casserole, Bloody Mary Bar, and a Mimosa Bucket!

Did you know…
There are some trailering best practices to remember when loading and unloading your boat at a boat ramp. They include:

• Ensure your drain plug is in place and secure.
• Make sure your outboard engine and swimming ladder are raised.
• Set your parking brake.
• NEVER use engine power to put your boat back on the trailer. Engine power will dig a hole in the sand and create a pile that other boats and trailers can get stuck in. Always use your winch to pull the boat onto the trailer.
