Happy Monday, Lakers! We are excited to share lots of ways to enjoy another month of summer at Lake Monticello and in Fluvanna County! Read all about activities at both our clubhouses, our upcoming fireworks show, ways to get involved, and more. Happy planning! Tuesdays in August Functionally Fit: This class runs from 11:30 AM to 12:30 PM, focusing on agility, strength, balance, flexibility, and cognitive fitness. Instructor and resident Janelle Holden aims to help others develop the skills needed for Active Daily Living, so they can care for themselves and enjoy things like gardening, pickleball, golf, and other daily pursuits. Get functionally fit and have fun! All you need is a mat and enthusiasm. All questions and registration (not required) can be sent to [email protected]. Tuesdays & Thursdays in August - Yoga with Renata Miller: Lake resident, Renata Miller (with occasional help from Cynthia Moore), is offering two free yoga classes at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. She offers a Tuesday & Thursday yoga class from 8:45 - 10 AM. All you need is a yoga mat! Wednesdays in August Strength Training Circuit: This class will meet in the Ashlawn Clubhouse Lake Room from 10:15 – 11:15 AM. It will incorporate free weights, tubing, and bodyweight exercises that will help you tone your entire body and feel energized. Contact [email protected] to join. Participants should bring their own weights and a mat. Saturdays in August Lake Monticello Run Club: Starting August 9, this new club plans to bring together neighbors of all ages for a 5K run or walk every Saturday at 8 AM, meeting at the Main Beach parking lot. Just show up and join the group! August 6 Silver & Gold: This group is open to all Fluvanna County residents 55 and up and meets on the first Wednesday of each month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 10 – 11:30 AM. Contact Peggy Shanklin for more info at [email protected]. August 6 & 19 Newcomers & Old Friends Early Sign-Up: Newcomers & Old Friends will be holding two early sign-up events in August at the Bunker Bistro from 5 – 7 PM. Annual Membership is $10 per person. This fee allows Members to participate in the 40+ small groups hosted under the Newcomers umbrella. The group will be collecting school supplies for local schools and giving away gift certificates to the Bunker Bistro for all those who donate school supplies. Come meet the other Members of Newcomers & Old Friends, its Board, and see friends as they welcome another fun year! August 12 School Starts: Fluvanna County Schools will be back in session on Tuesday, August 12, 2025. That means kids will be walking to and from their bus stops between 6 AM and 8:30 AM in the morning and 3 PM and 5 PM in the evenings. Keep an eye out for them and drive carefully! Also, most of our lifeguards will be heading back to school as well. Each year, we face the challenge of keeping the pool adequately staffed once school resumes, and this year is no exception. Please know that we will do our best to stay open as usual, though we might encounter some capacity challenges on weekdays. Thanks so much for your understanding and support! August 13 Aqua Water Workgroup: This workgroup, consisting of Lake Monticello residents and Aqua Virginia staff, meets from 10 to 11:30 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse’s Terrace Room A to discuss ways to meet customer needs. Visitors are welcome but are asked to save their comments and questions until the end. Since the formation of the workgroup, progress of promised improvements made by Aqua Virginia has become easier to track. August 16 August Hygeia Wellness: This Info/Orientation Session on Nourishing Resilience (NR) Training will be from 3 - 4:30 PM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse Terrace Rooms lead by RDN, and NR provider Cynthia Moore. Come learn about brain states and how to change your brain state from "good to great" or "stressed to great" even more quickly. If you've ever wondered why you can know what to do but not do it, you'll enjoy this class. We'll touch on the science of neuroplasticity and attachment theory, then learn and practice the Check-In skill in our small group. Nourishing Resilience gives you the skills to manage stress and implement your healthy intentions. This class is usually $20/person, but will be free for those who pre-register and attend on Aug 16th. You'll have the option to identify if there is value for you in learning more by enrolling in the 7-week Nourishing Resilience Essentials series this fall. August 21 Regular Board Meeting: The LMOA Board of Directors will meet for its regular meeting in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) at 7 PM. Here are some tips on how to follow along:
How to Watch: If you can’t make it in person, no worries! Our volunteer-run Broadcast Group records open sessions so you can still join in. You can watch it live on Comcast Channel 977 or on YouTube. We also keep the recordings available on lmoa.org for two months, so you’ll have plenty of time to tune in later. These recordings are posted within a day or two of the meeting on the member side of the website under Board Meeting Details.
Sign up to Speak: If you’re interested in sharing your feedback with BOD, this can only be done by attending in person. Please fill out the sign-up form HERE. If you have comments after the meeting, you can contact the board by logging into lmoa.org and clicking on the link CONTACT THE BOARD in the brown toolbar.
How to Prepare for a Board Meeting: You can find the Board Meeting Agenda and Packet by logging into lmoa.org and selecting Board Meeting Details under the GOVERNANCE tab.
If you have any other questions, please email us at [email protected]. Looking forward to seeing you there! August 28 Labor Day Celebration Fireworks: We’re thrilled to share that fireworks will make a return to the Lake, now at the Lake Monticello Golf Course! Before our 250th celebration on July 4, 2026, we’ll hold a special practice display to kick off Labor Day Weekend. Join us on August 28, 2025, at 8 PM, as fireworks light up from the dam behind the cart barn at the golf course. Holding the show on a Thursday helps us minimize disruptions to golf operations during this busy weekend. Also, the foliage in the trees will still be lush, helping us accurately identify the best viewing spots for next summer. This preview allows LMOA to fine-tune plans for our big July 4, 2026, celebration, and we’re grateful to residents volunteering to help make it happen. Volunteers and staff will be on-site to guide you—please sit on the fairways (not the greens, which will be roped off). We suggest bringing blankets, a flashlight, and using the provided trash bins. Stay tuned for more details on viewing and parking—we plan to share a detailed map soon!
