Board Meeting Recap
Reports
The General Manager’s Report that was posted in the packet will be presented in April. It will give an overview of our Reserve Spending in 2025 and the upcoming strategies for 2026, along with a summary of our Reserve account balances. Our staff is working with the Finance & Audit Committee on updating the 10-year Outlook, which they aim to complete by early fall. In a report from the Facilities & Lake Operations Committee (FLOC), the Chair, Dean Tisdadt, shared news about their proactive efforts to improve lake and pond health. In 2025, the Board entrusted FLOC to lead a Request for Proposal (RFP) for the Tufton Pond restoration project, resulting in an innovative proof of concept project—read all about it HERE. Board Approvals

The Board approved updates to the Association’s cybersecurity tools, including a dual firewall at the Ashlawn Clubhouse for better protection and business continuity and a multilayered antivirus solution for LMOA’s network. Marieke Henry presented the Resolution Proposal, stating that cyberattacks are faster, more aggressive, and more automated, making reliance on traditional security tools irresponsible. She asked to upgrade from a detection-only antivirus to ThreatLocker, which is proactive in reducing risk and improving oversight. The total investment is approximately $17K, but it is necessary to better protect the Membership’s data.
The Compliance Committee’s membership is exclusively reserved for former Board Directors. Chair Scott Marshall informed the Board that it is becoming increasingly difficult to reach the required ten members and requested that it be reduced to six, which the Board approved.
The Pavilion Site Change was tabled until the April Regular Board Meeting. The Board would like the community to have a chance to read the staff pavilion report and provide input before a decision is made. The report can be found HERE.
The Board empowered the Community Development Committee to represent LMOA in asking the State Corporation Commission (SCC) to deny Aqua Virginia’s proposed rate increase, including any rate of return on its cost of common equity. Aqua Virginia applied to SCC for a rate increase of $7,926,613 (27.48%), with $5,318,190 for water (26.42%), and $2,608,423 for wastewater (29.95%). The LMOA Board has opposed rate increases in the past and delegated representation to the Community Development Committee. The Committee Chair Tom Diggs also thanked the community for submitting comments opposing the increase to the SCC. Please keep them coming. Read how HERE.

Committee Members Needed
Multiple Committees are in need of volunteers and members. If you missed the Annual Committee Chair/Board Work Sessions, but still want to learn more about our committees and possibly join one, then the staff have put together a summary for you. Read HERE so you can learn what each committee does and when they meet. Remember, LMOA Members are always welcome to visit a committee meeting. Each committee is supported by a Board and Staff Liaison. Together, they can work with residents who have suggestions for procedural or policy improvements. Visitors get an opportunity to make comments during the designated time on the agenda. Have fun exploring!

Recognition
LMOA would like to recognize our very own Russell Wilkins, who is both a member of LMOA's Facilities & Operations Team and a firefighter at the Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire Department. This week, Russell was elected to Lieutenant, which will be effective on April 4. Congratulations, Russell!

Registration Reminders
Boats
All 2026 slips and racks payments are due by March 31, and it is time to register boats for the 2026 season! The updated Marina page on the Member side of lmoa.org is where you can find everything you need. Look under the Facilities & Operations tab for info about registering, the Volunteer Water Safety Team, borrowing a life jacket, the shop, and more! You can also just pop into the Marina Thursday-Monday, where our friendly staff is happy to help! They would like to remind you that when registering your boat, you are required to submit current insurance documentation showing declarations of property and casualty insurance with at least $500,000 per incident in liability coverage. Policies must also include at least $500,000 in fuel spill liability, either within the policy or as a separate rider.

Barcodes Past Due
If you currently have a balance in your Amenities Account related to your Annual Barcode Renewals, please be advised that this amount is now past due. To avoid any disruption in access or additional fees, please submit your payment no later than March 31. If you made any vehicle changes in January that may affect your balance, you must submit the vehicle verification form and make payment for the correct number of barcodes. Thank you for your prompt attention to this matter.

Tennis & Pickleball
The racquet court season kicked off on March 1. New and returning players should complete this form or visit Member Services, 41 Ashlawn Blvd, to renew memberships and get out on the courts for another great season!

Roadside Cleanup
Join the Lake Monticello Beautification Corps for a spring clean-up of Lake Monticello Road (Route 618) this Saturday, March 28. Meet at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 9 AM to help clean roadside trash from the Route 53 roundabout to South Boston Road. All are welcome to join, and safety vests, gloves, trash grabbers, and trash bags will be provided. Please bring a water bottle and be sure to wear sturdy shoes and weather-appropriate clothing, as the cleanup typically takes 2-3 hours. The Easter Bunny is Coming to the Lake!
The Young Residents and Families (YRF) Committee invites you to bring the kiddos and your camera to take pictures with the Easter Bunny on Sunday, April 5 from 2-4 PM in front of the Shark Tank (the circle at the end of Edgewater Dr). Small treats will be provided. If it rains, the Easter Bunny will be located in front of the Ashlawn Clubhouse.

Fluvanna Habitat for Humanity Annual Golf Tournament
Fluvanna Habitat is still seeking sponsors, players, and volunteers for their April 18 annual Golf Tournament at Lake Monticello. The Platinum Level sponsorship includes registration for a team of four. Additional sponsorship levels, silent auction items, and raffle prizes are also needed. Contact the Fluvanna Habitat office at 434-589-3752 or visit FluvannaHabitat.org to get involved!

Bulk Trash Pickup
Bulk trash pickup is scheduled for Monday, April 20, through Thursday, April 23, with Friday, April 24, being an overflow day if needed. Due to high demand, GFL's crews will not be able to go back to an area that has already been completed. To view your pick-up day, please refer to the attached service map provided by GFL. For more information and to review a list of items that are excluded from bulk pickup, click HERE. Any items set out that are on the unauthorized/excluded list will not be picked up by GFL’s crews and remain the Member’s responsibility to remove them. Please be aware of GFL’s crews servicing the area that week and exercise extra caution and patience to ensure Members and crews remain safe. Don't forget: our community-wide Yard Sale and the Fluvanna Free Swap both take place the weekend prior to Bulk Trash Pickup, April 18 and 19. Sign up to be on the Yard Sale Map HERE.

April 4-12: Qualifying rounds will take place for the Men’s Match Play Championships. Registration is now open with 3 divisions this year: Men’s Gross, Senior Men’s Gross, and Net Championships.
April 11: Community Golf Day, 2-4 PM. Bring your family and friends to enjoy a day at the Lake Monticello Golf Club! Free “MELT” ice cream, games for all ages, a putting contest with prizes, and free range balls. No cost - just fun!

While there, take a look at our 9-minute video, Boating Safety on Lake Monticello, that summarizes specific LMOA boating safety rules. It's a great resource to refresh your boating knowledge before boating season gets into high gear. It is also helpful to watch as a 'study guide' for boat owners who are preparing to take the Lake boating exam (required every 5 years) in order to register motorboats.
