The opening of the all-inclusive playground was so much fun! October 4 Silver & Gold: The second monthly meeting of the Silver & Gold group for active 55 and older Fluvanna residents will be at 10 AM at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The group functions like the Lake’s Newcomers & Old Friends group, organizing activities for older adults. The goal is to connect active seniors with others, said organizer Peggy Shanklin. October 4 Irish Night: Come listen to live music from Matthew O’Donnell from 5:30 to 7:30 PM at The Pub. To reserve your space, please call 434-591-0106.
October 7 Registration Deadline Rivanna Lion’s Club Golf Tournament: Come support the Lion’s Club on October 14 on the Lake Monticello Golf Course. This year you can win a brand-new car if you make a hole-in-one at hole 8! $75/person or $300/team of four includes food and a cart. There are lots of other prizes too. The proceeds benefit local vision and hunger prevention initiatives as well as youth and community services. The Rivanna Lion’s Club is also looking for new members. The group meets every second Wednesday of the month at The Pub. Come to social hour at 5 PM, or just join the meeting/dinner at 6 PM. The Rivanna Lions Club is a member of Lions Clubs International, the world’s largest service organization. October 8 Native Plants Program: Get together with Fluvanna Master Gardner Sue Tepper, an active volunteer at the Native Plant Butterfly Garden at Pleasant Grove Park. She will be at the Fairway Clubhouse at 51 Bunker Blvd. at 2 PM to teach you all about native plants and fall gardening. The event is free and brought to you by the LMOA Wildlife Committee.
October 9 Square Dancing: The Fluvanna Flutterwheels Square Dance Club invites you to their open house from 7-9 PM at the Fluvanna County High School. The dress code is casual. For more information, please call 434-286-2585.
October 9 – November 27 Free Junior Tennis Clinic: Volunteers led by Betsy Gunnels will hold a free tennis clinic every Monday at the Ashlawn Courts from 5 – 6 PM. Call Member Services to register at 434-589-8263.
October 14 Art Studio Tour: This free, self-guided tour takes place from 10 AM to 5 PM, rain or shine.It is a unique opportunity to meet over 30 artists in their working studios and learn about the processes and materials they use. Many of the studios are at Lake Monticello. Download the map and brochure at www.artsfluvannacounty.com.
October 14 Fire Prevention Day: The Lake Monticello Fire Department will wrap up National Fire Prevention Week with lots of fun at the firehouse on 10 Slice Road. Fire Prevention Day will have an open house format running from 11 AM to 2 PM. Come with your families and enjoy demonstrations, educational information, games and activities, fire trucks on display, challenges, and refreshments!
October 14 Registration Deadline Monticello Cup: The Monticello Cup will take place on October 21 and October 22, sign up by October 14. The Entry Form and details can be found HERE. Costs are $30 per player plus green/cart fees.
October 15 Fall Festival POSTPONED: We will be merging this event with the community bonfire on November 11. There were too many challenges securing vendors and bands on the chosen date, but the beach bonfire will be a more robust event with fun for the whole family. Stay tuned for details!
October 15 Newcomers & Old Friends: The monthly meeting at the Ashlawn Clubhouse will take place from 3:30 – 5 PM. Stop by to learn more about this club or log into lmoa.org, click on ORGANIZATION, and select CLUBS & GROUPS!
October 16 Cremation Seminar: The Cremation Society of Virginia will host a free informational seminar downstairs in the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 2 PM which includes snacks. Attendees will learn more about the benefits of preplanning a cremation, affordable options and savings, and Veteran benefits. Reservation is required. Please RSVP at 434-373-5327 or email

October 21 Witches & Wizards Paddle: Gather the children on Lake Monticello’s Main Beach on Saturday, October 21, at 12:45 for a special visit from water sport-loving sorcerers! The Annual “WITCH AND WIZARD CANDY PADDLE” will bring smiles and sweets to all the kiddos waiting by the water to greet witches and wizards who paddle across the Lake to greet them! Halloween costumes are optional but encouraged! (Adult) Witches & Wizards paddling via canoe, kayak, or paddle board will gather at Beach 3 in costume at 12:30 PM. October 21 Free Wellness Class: Fluvanna County-based Hygeia Wellness Park will host an introduction to “The Skills of Nourishing Resilience Training” at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 3 PM -4:15 PM. “Nourishing Resilience is a set of skills that improve our ability to recover faster toward high-level well-being after stressors and allow us to make healthier food, movement, and relationship choices.” For questions or to reserve a spot, contact Cynthia Moore at

October 23 Food Drive: The Gifted Ladies need your help to support the Fluvanna Food Bank. The food bank needs non-food items such as toiletries, cleaning supplies, pet food, diapers, toilet paper, and paper towels. Please place your donations by your mailbox by 9:00 AM on that day and the Gifted Ladies will pick them up!
October 26 YRF Pumpkin Carving: Please bring a hollowed-out pumpkin to the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 6 PM and carve your creation with some neighbors! All other supplies are provided, you just have to bring a hollow pumpkin!

October 27 YRF Pumpkin Path: Bring your carved pumpkins to Bunker Park at 6 PM and place them around the Bunker Park track. The Young Residents and Families Committee will provide lights for your pumpkins. Everyone is welcome to come and admire jack-o-lanterns from 6 – 8 PM. There will be music and candy, and we encourage everyone to wear costumes! You are not required to bring a pumpkin, but it is fun if you do. Please be sure to come back and get your pumpkins by 10 AM the next morning or they will be donated to a local pig sanctuary. (If you want your pumpkin donated to the animals, please make sure there are no pen/marker marks on the pumpkin). Please email

October 31 Trick or Treat at Lake Monticello: 6-8 PM. If you do not wish to participate, please turn your porch light off.
