GM Corner 3 November 2023
Friday, November 3, 2023
Hello, Team LMOA!
We would like to thank everyone who has gotten involved in LMOA's budget for 2024. A lot of hard work goes into responsible planning, and feedback from our Members is always valued. If you did not get the chance to watch or read about the first budget meeting, please check your email or watch the next budget meeting on November 9 at the Fairway Clubhouse at 6 PM. This meeting will be recorded and broadcast live on Comcast channel 977 and YouTube. The Board plans to approve the final budget proposal at the next Board Meeting.
Veterans Day:
LMOA staff will observe Veterans’ Day on Friday, November 10. The Administrative Offices will be closed, and there will be no GM Corner that week. Veterans Day is important as it allows us to honor the people who have sacrificed their lives for our freedom and to thank the men and women who currently serve and protect our country. The phrase “all gave some, and some gave all” truly reflects the cost of our freedom. All men and women who choose to serve our country make sacrifices. To name just a few, they may suffer family separations, remote and isolated tours of duty, and long and difficult hours with little compensation. Those who put on the uniform deserve honor and our respect for their brave service to our country. If you see a veteran on Saturday, November 11, take a moment to thank them for their service. We hope some Veterans will join us for the bonfire!
Beach Bonfire:
Please join us next Saturday at the Main Beach from 4 - 7:30 PM. Bring a chair and enjoy a cozy evening with your neighbors. Hop on a free hayride and play games from 4 - 5 PM. Purchase food and a hot drink while listening to the Outliers play live from 5 - 6:30 PM. There will be a food truck, and we will sell beer, wine, and (alcoholic and nonalcoholic) hot chocolate and apple cider from the Shark Tank. This is a family-friendly event, and everyone is welcome to make a complimentary s'more provided to you by the Young Residents and Families Committee from 4:30-6:30 PM. Hope to see you there as we kick off the holiday season together!
Home of the Month and Leaves:
Our EC&C Administrator Carol Cavanaugh congratulates John & Joyce Danna of 951 Jefferson Drive. They are the Home of the Month Winners of October 2023. Carol thanked them for keeping their property nice and neat with a plant and gift certificate. She also reminds everyone that cleaning leaves and other debris from culverts is a requirement that helps keep organic matter out of our Lake. Also, please do not blow leaves into streams. The less organic matter in the water, the better the swim conditions. While cleaning up leaves, feel free to take advantage of the GFL rule that allows residents to leave up to five bags of leaves beside their trash can for pickup. Thank you!
Early November Board Meeting:
Due to the Thanksgiving holiday, the November LMOA Board Meeting will take place on the 16th at 7 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.). Sign up to speak by emailing the Executive Assistant, Karis Rivera, at
[email protected]
.
Thanksgiving-To-Go at The Pub:
The Pub will offer a
to-go menu
that you can pick up on Wednesday, November 22 from 12-4 PM! The menu can be preordered now until November 18. The decision was made to shut down Lakeside Restaurant because, when it was open from September - December of 2022, it was losing too much money, volume of business was not sufficient, and staffing both The Pub and Lakeside Restaurant was extremely challenging. For that reason, the Lakeside Restaurant will not be open for Thanksgiving this year.
Pub Winter Hours:
The Pub will be closed on Thanksgiving Day. Winter hours go into effect on November 13:
Sunday 9 AM – 2 PM
Monday and Tuesday 11 AM–4 PM
Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday 11 AM–8 PM
Friday, 11 AM–9 PM
Seasonal Snow Removal Employees:
If you are an experienced snowplow operator, you may be able to help the community in which you live. As we learned in 2022, we can use all of the help we can get when a large snowstorm hits. We are interviewing candidates now who may be available throughout the winter when it snows. The right candidates are happy to spring into action when your neighborhood needs you most, potentially working outside normal business hours (also nights) during inclement weather. LMOA can compensate Seasonal Snow Removal Employees about $15/hour. If you have the right experience and the desire to help, our Facilities & Operations Director Tracy Chandler would love to hear from you. Please email him at
[email protected]
.
Bathroom Winterization Reminder:
Our Maintenance Team has winterized the restrooms at Beach 2, 3, and 4. This prevents damage caused by frozen pipes and saves on costs. Ashlawn Playground, Bunker Park, Lafayette Playground, Beach 5, and the Marina will have facilities available throughout the winter. Please take this into account when you are using the beaches and parks. Finally, just a friendly reminder that pets are not allowed in our parks, and Beaches 2 and 5 can be used for pets starting December 1.
EC&C Holiday Schedule:
Monday, November 20: deadline for submitting for the Tuesday, November 28 meeting
Tuesday, November 21: Meeting is canceled.
Thursday, November 23, and Friday, November 24: Office Closed
Friday, December 22 and Monday, December 25: Office Closed
Tuesday, November 26: Meeting is canceled.
Thursday, December 28: deadline for submitting for the Tuesday, January 2 meeting
Happy Faces:
Fluvanna Christian Service Society (FCSS) has placed a donation box in the Ashlawn Clubhouse downstairs beside the Help Desk. The society asks you to drop off new toys in the $15 to $30 range for children ages infant to 13 (no toy guns, please). They are also collecting children’s new winter coats and new pajamas sizes from Infant to 18. On the morning of Dec 2, FCSS will host a party for families in need at Central Elementary School. FCSS partners with Social Services and Region 10 to invite qualifying families to pick up wrapped donations as well as join in fun activities. If you would like to volunteer to help with this special event, would like to give a monetary donation, or have questions, please email Mary Kidd at

.
Enjoy your weekend!
