GM Corner 1 December 2023
Friday, December 1, 2023
Hello, Team LMOA!
December has arrived! So have the colder temperatures and lots of community activities. Please continue reading to get the latest news update from LMOA:
Aqua Virginia:
Last year, when Aqua Virginia proposed charging Fluvanna customers a Water and Wastewater Infrastructure Service Charge (WWISC) of $3.64/month, the State Corporate Commission (SCC) received 2 comments opposing the charge. One was from LMOA and the other was from a resident. These few comments helped lower the proposed charge to about a dollar per month per customer. Now Aqua Virginia is proposing to raise its water rate by almost 33.88% and wastewater rate by 21.08%. The LMOA Board of Directors is working with the Community Development Committee to submit detailed comments opposing the increase before the deadline in April 2024. Since Board President Larry Henson warned the community about Aqua Virginia's proposal, the SCC has received over 300 comments, most of which came from Lake Monticello residents. Tom Diggs, the LMOA Community Development Committee Chair, encourages residents to support their opinions with reasons and examples. Individuals can submit new comments as many times as they want. He also shared that the Virginia Attorney General's Division of Consumer Counsel has notified the SCC that it plans to participate in the process. Aqua Virginia’s application is 775 pages long. Former attorney Tom Diggs has spent over 100 volunteer hours reviewing the document. Thus far, he has provided LMOA with a 20-page summary and a 5-page analysis. The committee's notes and recommendations will be published on lmoa.org as soon as they are complete. These notes will help the Board formulate its comments to the SCC. If you also want to influence the SCC’s decision, please submit a comment
