Hello, Team LMOA! Please continue reading for the Lake's latest official news update, ways to enjoy warmer weather, and volunteer opportunities: NEWS Aqua Virginia: Comments opposing increased water and wastewater rates continue to trickle in at the State Corporate Commission. Please help yourself and your community by submitting a comment HERE. The Board plans to submit over 30 pages of comments next week. Staff and the Board also continue to stay in touch with state officials including the Department of Environmental Quality, Senator Mark Warner, Congressman Bob Good, and Delegate Thomas Garrett about the matter. In addition to Lake Monticello, other neighborhoods near us and many businesses in Fluvanna County are serviced by Aqua Virginia. A successful outcome is in the best interest of the entire county. That is why LMOA is grateful to the Fluvanna County Board of Supervisors and their team for exploring ways the help its residents fight the rate case. Our Board has agreed to provide up to $5000 to help support legal action in this collaborative effort. The next Water Workgroup meeting will be on Tuesday, March 12 at 10 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse. Golf and Pool General Manager: Troon's Golf, Pool, and F&B Director, Jeff Allums, is finishing up his final week at Lake Monticello today. With Food & Beverage transferring to RocDun Hospitality, Jeff will move on to a new project elsewhere. Our Golf Pro Mark Marshall will take over Pool and Golf management. Mark is a seasoned professional at Lake Monticello, and our team looks forward to working with him in this new role. Congratulations Mark! And thank you, Jeff, for your support & dedication. We wish Jeff all the best! Food & Beverage: Sam Rochester and Jacie Dunkle are working hard to get Bunker Bistro ready for reopening. They will be ready for a soft opening by the end of next week with live music on Friday at 6 PM from Jefferson Speedboat and St. Patrick’s Day festivities on Sunday. Their website is now live: https://bunkerbistro.com/. Please have a look and make a reservation! Dues Increase: The Board is considering all feedback from emails and the town hall meetings while finalizing its proposal to raise dues. The final version will be in the Annual Meeting Notice which goes out to all Members in Good Standing in May. Board Members and Staff are also working on a list of services that will need to be considered for cuts or reductions if a dues increase is not passed. A new Reserve Study is also in progress. We'll have more information on that as soon as possible. Contrary to an article that was published on a Facebook page this week, LMOA is not considering cutting the Lake Monticello Police Department. As I stated at the last town hall meeting, one example of a potential impact would be to reduce gate operations. We are considering the options now and plan to communicate a potential plan for gate operations at the next board meeting. Job Opportunities: LMOA is looking for a Senior Financial Analyst and a part-time Field Inspector. These positions will be funded through vacancy and attrition savings so Operations can manage within budget. If you or someone you know is interested in one of these positions, please visit our CAREER PAGE. WAYS TO ENJOY THE WEATHER Pet Beaches: Enjoy Beach 2 and 5 with your pets while the offseason lasts. Starting April 1, no pets will be allowed on any of the beaches until December. Pets are never allowed on the other beaches. Please clean up after your pets. If you want to know more, see our Policy Manual (Chapter 6.02 I.A.1.c.). Walk the Golf Course: Have a walk on the golf cart paths, just make sure you do it outside of opening hours. It is not safe to walk them when golfers are on the course. You can use the cart paths in the morning up until the first tee times of the day. Walkers are asked to walk in the order of holes 1-9 and 10-18. Evening walking hours begin at cart due in time which can be found under Course Conditions on the golf app. Bikes and skateboards are not permitted, but dogs are welcome if they are leashed. Owners must clean up after their pets. Holidays at the Playgrounds: Our Young Residents and Families Committee will hold a treasure hunt on St. Patrick’s Day at 3 PM at the Ashlawn and Lafayette Parks. You can find all the details and RSVP through our official Facebook page. The committee will also hold an Easter egg hunt on March 30 and needs volunteers for these outdoor events. Please email yrfcommittee@gmail.com if you can help out. Sit on a Bench: The Lake Monticello Beautification Corps donated nine benches to the community! Our Facilities & Operations Team is installing them at our beaches and playgrounds. Be on the lookout for this wonderful gift! The club could use more members. Don't hesitate to get in touch with Helen Schoene at helenrschoene@gmail.com if you would like to join LMBC. Gardening with neighbors is a great way to give back to the community! Join Water Safety: The Volunteer Water Safety Team is ramping up for a summer of education and assistance out on the Lake. The group formerly known as the Water Safety Patrol is refreshing its role in the community. We’ll share their new logo and educational material soon. If you think you might want to join the team, be sure to attend the Membership Meeting on March 16 at the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 10 - 11 AM. Please email LMOAWaterSafety@gmail.com if you would like more information. Also, mark your calendars for the next Virginia Boating Safety Course which will be held on April 27 from 8 AM - 4 PM - more information coming soon! VOLUNTEER CORNER All Blessings Flow: Laker Peter Petzold would like to invite you to volunteer for “All Blessings Flow.” The local nonprofit collects and redistributes used medical equipment and supplies to those in need. It started its Mobile Program over a year ago, which is set up every Wednesday from 10 AM at the Cunningham United Methodist Church. Soon All Blessings Flow (ABF) will have a permanent satellite at Cunningham. Volunteers are needed to manage and operate the permanent site. Additionally, once the satellite is up and going, ABF plans to move the mobile unit to Fork Union where volunteers are also needed to assist clients with requests and with receiving donated items.
