Happy Monday, TEAM! Free muffins for moms, pool memberships available, graduation parade...all this and more is happening at Lake Monticello in May! We’ve compiled a list of important dates, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events for you and our residents this coming month! Let us know if we missed anything. Happy Planning! Now through June 7 Quilt Show: Please support our very own quilting group the “Piecemakers” by visiting their Artistry of Quilting exhibit at the Louisa Arts Center, Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 AM – 2 PM at 212 Fredericksburg Ave, Louisa, VA 23093. May 1 Fluvanna County Chamber of Commerce Women’s Refresh Event: This yearly event held at Camp Friendship is a day to connect and refresh with women in business. Includes panel discussion, mindfulness discussion, fun camp activities, and lunch. Tickets cost $25 for Chamber Members and $35 for non-members. There is limited space, so please register HERE. May 4 VWST Annual Training: The Volunteer Water Safety Team will be holding its annual training from 9 AM - 12 PM at the Ashlawn Clubhouse in Terrace Room A. Learn the ins and outs of being a part of this growing team! This interactive training will prepare you to help keep water activities on our Lake safe! Email [email protected] for more information. May 12 Muffins with Mom: The Young Residents and Families Committee is hosting Muffins with Mom again this year! Bring your special mother figure to the Main Beach (end of Ashlawn Blvd.) from 11 AM - 1 PM where YRF will treat her to a free muffin and flowers. Gluten-free options are available. Bring a towel or chair and enjoy the Lake view! The rain location is in front of Ashlawn Clubhouse. If you would like to volunteer at this event or any other YRF event, email [email protected]. Volunteers are always welcome! May 14 Bunker Bistro Ribbon Cutting Ceremony: The official grand opening of Bunker Bistro will take place at 51 Bunker Blvd. at 11 AM. May 18 FCHS Graduation Parade: The Senior Parade around Lake Monticello will be at 2 PM. Details are still being developed for this event, but the lineup will likely begin at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 1:30 PM. Stay tuned! May 18 Free Yoga Workshop: Join nutritionist Cynthia Moore (RDN) for “The Healing Power of Yoga”. Her workshops are open to all and are offered at the Ashlawn Clubhouse on the 3rd Saturday of the month through the Hygeia Wellness Park. She’ll be in Terrace room A from 3-4:15. The first 20 to register at [email protected] and arrive on time will have priority. May 19 Newcomers & Old Friends: Join the club for their monthly meeting in the Lake Room at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 3:30 - 5 PM for refreshments and a program. This is the last regular meeting until September! May 20/21 Candidate Forum: In addition to the tasks mentioned above, Broadcast Group volunteers interview the board candidates every year. This year, they are also bringing back the Candidate Forum which will take place on May 20 or 21. All four candidates will join interviewer Ron Krauss for a Q&A-type discussion. Residents are encouraged to attend. We will email the details once those have been solidified. Meanwhile, Broadcast requests residents email their questions for the candidates to [email protected]. Ron will incorporate as many as possible during the forum, and there will be an opportunity to ask questions in person. Be on the lookout for an email invite, and send Marieke Henry your questions by May 13, 2024. May 23 Regular Board Meeting: The LMOA Board of Directors will meet for its regular meeting in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) at 7 PM. Email Karis Rivera at [email protected] to sign up to speak. May 24 Pool Season Opens: Member Services is taking applications for pool memberships. The application forms and other pool information can be found by logging intolmoa.org, selecting Facilities & Operations and then Pool from the dropdown menu. May 27 LMOA Offices CLOSED for Memorial Day May 28 Annual Meeting Voting Goes Live May 29 July 4th Planning Meeting #2: The Annual Lake Monticello Independence Day Celebrations will take place this year on July 4 and July 6 with the fireworks lighting up the sky on the 6th. It takes a team of 150 staff members and volunteers to hold two fun-filled days. Anyone who would like to volunteer can sign up using THIS FORM, and we will partner you up with the appropriate event leader. Save the date, details will be emailed to registered volunteers. Thank you! May 28 LM Shark Swim Practice Begins: Did you know LMST relies on sponsorships from local businesses to offset costs incurred during the season? If you own a business and would like to be a sponsor for this season, please visit the Sponsor Information Form link HERE or email [email protected] for more info. For residents: the Sharks practice on most workdays from May 28 - July 26 at the Lake Monticello Pool in the mornings from 7 - 8:30 AM and evenings from 6 - 9 PM. Once competition season starts on June 10, meets are held on Wednesdays. How meets will take place on June 24, July 3 and July 17. Expect crowds around the Ashlawn Clubhouse on these days.
