Happy June, Lovely Lakers! Welcome Summer to Lake Monticello! Celebrating father figures, the Annual Meeting and the Sharks’ Swim Meets only scratch the surface as we usher in the most fun season of all at our Lake. We compiled a list of important dates, volunteer opportunities, and upcoming events for you this month. Let us know if we missed anything. Happy Planning! May 28 Annual Meeting Voting went live via email. Postcards have been delayed a week due to a printing error. Voting ends June 21! Now through June 7 Quilt Show: Please support our very own quilting group the “Piecemakers” by visiting their “Artistry of Quilting” exhibit at the Louisa Arts Center, Tuesdays through Fridays from 11 AM – 2 PM at 212 Fredericksburg Ave, Louisa, VA 23093. June 3 – 26 Early Registration for Swim Across the Lake and 5K: The Department of Public Safety will take extra precautions to ensure a safe Swim Across the Lake. The event which traditionally takes place on the 4th of July, has grown to be very popular, drawing over 200 participants last year. In 2024, PREREGISTRATION is required to participate in Swim Across the Lake. Participants must be at least 10 years old, and the event will be held in heats of 50 swimmers to ensure all participants remain visible during the crossing. There will be no same-day registration for Swim Across the Lake. The 5K also offers a preregistration period but is not mandatory, see HERE. All other events will still offer same-day registration. Check out the full Independence Day Celebration Schedule in the attachment. June 6 & 7 Tufton Gate Closed: Repairs will be made to Tufton (aka Monish) Gate starting Thursday, June 6 at 10 AM. The Gate is expected to remain closed until the work is completed sometime on Friday, June 7. Please make plans to use an alternative point of entry and exit during that time. The barcode side of the Main Gate may also be down at times on Thursday and Friday to replace the barcode reader. Thank you for your patience while we make these essential repairs. June 11 West Coast Swing Beginner Lessons: Kyla Miller will start a new beginner West Coast Swing class on June 11 from 7 - 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of Ashlawn Clubhouse. This is a progressive 8-week class and it’s FREE! For more information and to register, please contact Kyla at [email protected]. June 10 – 13 QuickStart Tennis: This youth camp will take place daily from 8:30 -10 AM. Racquet sports players be aware the courts will be in use during those times. This event is sold out for 2024. Rain date June 14. June 15 Kids Fishing Day: Smiling kids, squirming worms, and flopping fish are all part of the annual Kids’ Fishing Day to be held this year on June 15th at Tufton Pond, with a June 22nd rain date. This fun family event begins at 9 AM, with fishing until 11 AM, followed by pizza and prizes. All children ages 3 through 12, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are invited to participate. To register in advance, send an email to [email protected] by June 13 with (1) the name and age of each child, (2) the name of the accompanying adult, and (3) a contact phone number. Registration on the day of the event begins at 9 AM. Kids’ Fishing Day is a completely free event. Everything needed to fish at Tufton Pond is provided, but you are encouraged to bring your own rod and reel if you want. If you are new to fishing, members of the Lake Monticello Fishing Club (LMFC) will be there to help. LMFC is a group of men and women who enjoy fishing and plan Kids’ Fishing Day to introduce children to the fun of fishing. June 16 Donuts with Dad: The Young Residents and Families Committee (YRF) is hosting Donuts with Dad again this year! Bring your special father figure to the Main Beach (end of Ashlawn Blvd.) from 11 AM - 1 PM where YRF will treat him to a free donut. Bring a towel or chair and enjoy the Lake view! The rain location is in front of Ashlawn Clubhouse. If you would like to volunteer at this event or any other YRF event, email [email protected] . Volunteers are always welcome! June 22 Wellness Workshop: Join nutritionist Cynthia Moore for a quick look at self-care practices. Open to all, the Hygeia Wellness Park offers free classes on the 3rd Saturday of the month at the Ashlawn Clubhouse. She’ll be in Terrace Room A from 3-4:15. June 25 Free Financial Seminar: “The Fundamentals of Investing” will be given by Nicholas DiGeorgio, a Financial Advisor with United Brokerage Services, Inc. The class will be held in the Ashlawn Clubhouse, Terrace Room B at 6 PM. All Lake residents are welcome! June 20 Regular BOD Meeting: The LMOA Board of Directors will meet for its regular meeting in the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) at 7 PM. Email Karis Rivera at [email protected] to sign up to speak. June 26 LMST’s First Home Swim Meet of 2024: The first home meet of the season for Lake Monticello’s Sharks begins at 4 PM. Their next home meet will beJuly 3 and their final home meet on July 10. Please note: traffic and attendance is high during this time; please be aware of the increased vehicle and pedestrian traffic around the pool and Ashlawn Clubhouse. FAIRWAY FUN June 4 Women’s Golf Day: This free event kicks off at 3 PM with fun interactive games on the putting green, short game practice area, and driving range. Sign up HERE. June 7-9 Member Guest Golf Tournament: Registration for the Annual Member-Guest Golf Tournament is open. The event is fun-packed with golf, food, drinks, and friendly competition. SIGN UP NOW! June 15 45th Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue Golf Tournament: Registration is open and forms are available at the Pro Shop, or via email: [email protected]. FLUVANNA COUNTY HIGHLIGHTS Groovin’ at the Grove: Starting June 8, the county will host concerts at Pleasant Grove Park. The monthly summer series that lasts through September will kick off with the JBB from 5 – 7 PM. “JBB is an eclectic psychedelic southern rock and roll jam band, that will have you on the edge of your seat awaiting what awesome jam or song or cover awaits around the next corner.” Palmyra Art Fest: That same day starting at 10 AM, gather at Stone Jail Street for local artists, artisans, performers, food trucks, and kids’ activities. Come discover the best our county has to offer and enjoy the company of your neighbors. Farmer's Market: Want more music? Come to the Farmer’s Market by Ace Hardware every Sunday from 11 AM – 2 PM for local produce, meats, arts and crafts as well as live, local music and food trucks.
