Hello Team LMOA!

The summer season may have started a little gray, but the sunshine has finally arrived, and the pool is officially open and ready for you to dive in!

Please keep reading for more details from last night’s Board meeting, the 4th of July schedule, your Member ID, and other official LMOA news. Here’s a quick look at what’s ahead in this week’s newsletter:

May Board Meeting Recap
At last night’s board meeting, there were a number of reports, summarized below:

GM Report: The Board reviewed a Resolution Proposal that adds the Assistant General Manager role to the organizational chart and includes wording allowing the General Manager the flexibility to make staffing changes within the budget. The AGM position was advertised, qualified candidates were interviewed, and the decision was made to promote the current Communications & Administration Director, Marieke Henry, to this role. Please join us in congratulating Marieke on this well-deserved promotion. She has worked hard towards this opportunity, and we are confident she will do an incredible job in this role! The new position does not impact the current budget but supports business continuity, succession planning, and opportunities for upward mobility within the organization. It also enhances leadership capacity to address growing future challenges and daily management demands. Through this deputy position, the board also has the option to promote internally or recruit externally for future general or assistant general managers. For more input, read the GM Report HERE.
Financial Report: Lots of good news was shared by the Board Treasurer’s First Quarter Report summary, which can be found HERE.
Public Safety Report Summary: Major David Wells, Chief Deputy of Fluvanna County Sherrif's Office, outlined the roles and challenges faced by the Sheriff’s department. Public Safety Director and Police Chief Jim Mooney from LMOA also shared extensive information highlighting the significant efforts of LMPD, Allied Security, and the Safety & Security Committee in serving the community. Both Major Wells and Chief Mooney were acknowledged by LMOA and the Board of Directors for their leadership, expertise, and dedication. Their close collaboration in supporting Fluvanna County and LMOA benefits the community greatly, and we are fortunate to have such professionals promoting safety. Trash Reminder
As a reminder, due to the Memorial Day holiday, trash services will be delayed by one day this week.

Annual Meeting Voting
The 54th Annual Meeting Notice was sent out this week through both mail and email. Members in Good Standing will receive an email and/or postcard with voting instructions and access to the online packet in the next couple of days. Rich Russell, Reese Peck, and Mary Jane Warner are running to fill three of four vacant spots on the Board, with the Board likely to appoint someone for the remaining vacancy during the Annual Meeting. Please take the opportunity to watch the panel interview HERE. Just a quick reminder that voting will close at 5 PM on June 19, and there will be no in-person voting at the Annual Meeting on June 27th, 2026.

4th of July
We are just over one month away from this year’s Independence Day festivities as
we celebrate America’s 250th Anniversary! Several events require advance registration, so have a look at the link below and don’t miss out on your opportunity to participate in old favorites like Swim Across the Lake and new events like basketball tournaments and fireworks at the golf course. We are still looking for volunteers to help make the weekend run smoothly. Event Spotlight: “Dual-ing” Boat Parades!
As part of this year’s Independence Day festivities, the Volunteer Water Safety Team is excited to host the annual Boat Parade on Thursday, July 2 at 6 PM! As it is the only event that evening, they’re hoping to make it BIG! Whether you’re joining in by boat or cheering from the shore, this tradition is always a blast for all ages. A few friendly water battles are sure to break out, though if you spot someone waving a white towel or shirt, please hold your water fire. This year will feature two simultaneous parade starting points: one at the turnaround buoy by the Marina, and the other at the Beach 5 turnaround buoy. The dual format will allow boats to reach more coves and spectators, while making it easier for boaters from either end of the Lake to participate. Keep an eye out for exact lineup times to be announced.

Also new this year is a Boat Decorating Contest! Get creative with your patriotic themes, or anything that sparks inspiration! There will be judges, prizes, and plenty of fun!

LMOA App
Now that the summer season is in full swing, we would like to remind you to use the app or website to check in your guests to help keep traffic moving smoothly at the Front Gate. Not sure how? This quick how-to video will walk you through it. If you do not yet have the app, log in to lmoa.org and select “Visitor Management” from the brown toolbar to check in via the website. In the app you will also be able to view your membership, pool credits, and more. Check out the details HERE and get ready for a great summer at the LMOA pool!

What’s Happening Around Town? (Look for more fun events on Monday in Plan Your Month June!)
Kids’ Fishing Day
The 21st annual Lake Monticello Kids’ Fishing Day will be held on Saturday, June 13 at Tufton Pond from 9-11AM, with a rain date of June 20. This FREE event for children ages 3-12, accompanied by a parent or guardian, is organized by the Lake Monticello Fishing Club, and while you are welcome to bring your own, all the gear needed for a fun morning of fishing is provided! Registration in advance is encouraged to help the morning run smoothly and efficiently, but day-of registration is available, too. To register in advance, please email [email protected] with (1) the full name and age of each child participating, (2) the name of the accompanying adult, and (3) a contact phone number.

FREE VA Safe Boating Class
On Sunday June 28, join the Volunteer Water Safety Team in the Ashlawn Clubhouse from 8:30 AM – 4:30 PM for a FREE Virginia Safe Boating Class. This course fulfills the VA boating safety requirement for PWC and motorboat operators. You will learn Safe Boating Practices, Navigation Best Practices, Emergency Procedures, and much more. Fluvanna County Job Fair
The Fluvanna Economic Development Office and Virginia Career Works will host the Fluvanna County Job Fair on Thursday, June 4, from 4-7 PM at the County Library. For more info contact Elyse Wood at: [email protected] or call 434-591-1921.

Fluvanna Back to School Bash
Fluvanna County Public Schools will host its annual Back to School Bash on Saturday, August 8th, 2026, from 11 AM – 3 PM at the Fluvanna County High School. Businesses, organizations, and vendors are invited to participate by hosting a table. To register, scan the Vendor QR code on the Back to School Bash FLYER by July 24. Review vendor rules HERE. Golf Opportunities

Half & Full Day Golf Camps: Now open for registration, join the Lake Monticello Golf Course June 8–12, July 13–17, or July 20–24 for camps following the US Kids game-based golf curriculum and award program. Half day: 9–11 AM | Full day: 9 AM–2:30 PM (includes lunch). For more details and to sign up, complete THIS FORM, and drop it off at the Pro Shop.
June 9: 3-5 PM, Free Wedge Clinic. This free event is designed to help you hit more accurate shots from inside 25 yards and get the ball closer to the pin.

Water Safety Tip
Brought to you by the Volunteer Water Safety Team
Did you know that every motorboat AND paddle craft must have a sound signaling device onboard? Sound signaling devices can be used to communicate with other boaters or to call for help. Motorboats should have a horn (installed), a handheld air horn, bell, or whistle. Paddle boards, canoes, and kayaks should have a whistle. The best place to keep your whistle is on your life jacket. That way if you fall overboard and need help, you have your whistle with you. The Paddler's Info bags at the Marina contain a complimentary whistle along with other information. Watch this video to learn how your cell phone can help or hinder your time on the water.
