Hello, Team LMOA!
There are lots of great opportunities to be an engaged and informed resident at Lake Monticello. Because many of you have asked, we would like to help you get more involved by providing the information in this email. Some options are:
Taking the Survey
Running for the Board
Voting This Spring
Attending or Watching Town Hall and Board Meetings
Joining a Committee or Group
Joining the Aqua Virginia Water Workgroup
Familiarizing yourself with the resources on lmoa.org
SURVEY: Please let the LMOA Board of Directors (BOD) know how you feel about a potential dues increase. Take the survey by noon on February 14, 2024. The survey is IP-address restricted meaning if multiple household members want to take the survey, they will need to use different devices. Your feedback is valued!
RUN FOR THE BOARD: On January 26, petition packets will become available at the Ashlawn Clubhouse to run for the board or propose policy changes. After picking up the packet, the first step to qualifying is to collect at least 150 signatures from Members in Good Standing by April 1, 2024. The Election Committee will verify signatures and the Board will announce qualifying candidates in early April. Then your campaign can begin! The packet has all the information you need, but our staff is also happy to answer any questions you may have about petitioning. Email
[email protected]
or stop by the Ashlawn Clubhouse for more information.
VOTE: Members in Good Standing will receive an Annual Meeting Notice and ballot in May so that they can vote on Board Candidates and any proposed policy changes that need a member vote. We will have more information on that in April.
MEETINGS: BOD meets monthly and LMOA Members can sign up to speak in person by emailing
[email protected]
. The Next regular board meeting is on January 25, 2024, at the Fairway Clubhouse (51 Bunker Blvd.) at 7 PM. You can also watch all board and town hall meetings live via YouTube (search Lake Monticello Owners’ Association) or Comcast channel 977. All LMOA Members are also invited to join the BOD in a discussion about a potential dues increase at the upcoming town hall meetings:
Tuesday, February 6 at Fairway Clubhouse, 6PM
Wednesday, February 28 at Fairway Clubhouse, 6PM
JOIN A COMMITTEE/GROUP: If you are a Member in Good Standing you can join one of our committees and all Lake residents can join a group such as the Lake Monticello Beautification Corps (maintains landscaping of common areas), Water Safety Patrol, or the Broadcast Group (records board meetings and LMOA events). Log into lmoa.org and select CLUBS AND GROUP from the MEMBER SERVICES dropdown menu for contact information. The Safety and Security Committee is currently looking for members and the Young Residents and Families Committee is always looking for event volunteers. Committee Chairs will be presenting achievements and goals to the board on Tuesday, January 30 and Thursday, February 1 at 6 PM at the Fairway Clubhouse. These are great meetings for learning more about LMOA’s committees. Other committee information can be found by logging into lmoa.org and selecting COMMITTEES from the GOVERNANCE dropdown menu.
WATER WORKGROUP: The Water Workgroup is a group of Aqua Virginia employees and Lake residents who meet monthly to exchange information about our water and wastewater system. The hope is to improve communications between our utility and its Lake Monticello customers. The next meeting is on February 13 at 10 AM in the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The group last met on January 9, 2024. Aqua Virginia provided updates, including a preliminary odor study report. A third party, Stantec, was contracted by Aqua Virginia to conduct an odor study on Lake Monticello’s wastewater system. Though the final report is not yet complete, it appeared only a handful of lift stations and a collection box were studied over a period of 10 days. In those 10 days, 3000 data points were collected. The Glenn Burnie lift station and a collection box near the Crofton Section were found to have readings 15-20 times higher than other studied lift stations. The presenters said they went out to the wastewater treatment plant twice but were unable to get good readings due to the open nature of the plant. No recommendations were shared on how to resolve odor issues. The full odor study report with recommended solutions is expected to be shared with the Water Workgroup in February. Additionally, Aqua Virginia shared that it has launched a
Lake Monticello customer website
which provides information specific to the Lake Monticello and Palmyra system. The site also allows online payments and outage reporting.
Please feel free to contact our staff if you'd like to know more about the information above. Have a great weekend!
