Hello, Team LMOA! Are you ready to cheer on the Women’s Rowing Teams? We are! But, we’ll have to wait a little longer than expected. Due to windy conditions, the start of the regatta is postponed until tomorrow (April 13) evening at 5:30 PM. The updated race schedule can be found HERE. Please remember that the Lake will be “No Wake” throughout the event, and the main body of the Lake will be limited to race participants while the regatta is taking place. The boat ramp at the Marina will be closed on Saturday all day and Sunday from sunrise to 2 PM. We apologize for the limited parking at the Ashlawn Clubhouse but trust everyone will enjoy this beautiful event and source of income! Vandalism: Out of respect for the victims' privacy, LMOA does not routinely publish press releases on criminal incidents that happen in our community. However, many concerned residents have reached out to us about an LMOA resident whose property was destroyed. Unfortunately, this is not a rumor. Chief Wells confirms that the Lake Monticello Police Department (LMPD) took a report of a vandalized Israeli yard flag on April 10, 2024, occurring in Section 10. He has also been in contact with the Fluvanna County Sheriff’s Office. To date, there have been no similar incidents reported in the area. The vandalism is currently under investigation by the LMPD. If you have any information on this or any other criminal incident at Lake Monticello, please call LMPD at 434-589-2677 or email [email protected]. Special Open Session Reminder: The LMOA Board will hold the Annual Special Open Session on April 15 at 6 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse to address the Annual Meeting Agenda. If you are submitting a Board Candidate Petition or Member Proposal Petition, your confirmation or denial will be announced at this meeting followed by a letter from the Board. This meeting will be streamed live on the Association’s YouTube channel and recorded. Free Events: Kyla Miller is hosting free West Coast Swing practice sessions on the third Monday of each month from 7- 8:30 PM in the Terrace Rooms of the Ashlawn Clubhouse. The first 30 minutes will be a lesson on variations of the push, pass, or whip followed by an hour of beginner-friendly music for open dancing. Dancers are expected to already know their basics (push, pass, and whip). For more information, please contact Kyla at [email protected]. On April 16, Financial Advisor, Nicholas DiGeorgio of United Brokerage Services, Inc., will provide a free financial seminar called “Avoiding the Big Mistakes of Retirement Planning” in the Terrace Rooms at the Ashlawn Clubhouse at 6 PM. DMV Connect: DMV will also be at the Ashlawn Clubhouse on April 16 from 9 AM – 4 PM. They are taking walk-ins, but please note that they will be closed for lunch from 12:30 PM to 1:30 PM. Many services are offered, be sure to visit DMVNOW.com/appt for more information. Yard Sale Day Map: Monday is the last day to SIGN UP to be included on the Yard Sale Day Map. This community-wide event takes place on April 20 and coincides with the annual Shred Day Fundraiser. Donate $10 per 30-lb. box and the Lake Monticello Community Foundation and Lake Monticello Volunteer Fire & Rescue will shred your discarded paperwork while you watch. This will happen from 9 - 11 AM at the Lake Monticello Fire Department at 10 Slice Road. And don’t forget, the following week is the annual Bulk Trash Pickup Week (April 22-25). Please click HERE for the rules and excluded items. Wildlife Committee: The LMOA Wildlife Committee has adopted a bear cub through the Wildlife Center of Virginia’s “Caring for Critters” program. The sponsorship helps provide food, shelter, and medicine for orphaned bear cubs raised at the center. Human interaction is limited so that the bears can be released into the wild when they are old enough. Also, the committee will offer a program about trees and wildlife in honor of Arbor Day. Join Tree Steward, Kathy Nepote on April 28 for an informative program at 2 PM in the Fairway Clubhouse. Have a great weekend! -Tom Schauder General Manager
